‘You are responsible for your happiness’ means you have to make an effort to seek out things to make yourself more well emotionally, NOT that you are the one to blame for your mental illness or for the abuse you have been put through. It means you have to take care of yourself, you have to allow yourself a treat and time to heal. Beating yourself up for not being cheerful and happy isn’t self care. In fact its the opposite.
