“People ask me all the time why I say no to so many concerts and TV shows. This photo reminds me why:
4 years ago I broke my violin on stage, during a rehearsal in Liseberg. I had been under lots of stress, without sleep or any form of rest. I remember feeling scared of myself afterwards, because I didn’t want to make my fans feel bad.
However, after that incident, I said no to be a moneymaking commercial artist 24/7. I wanted to be a good musician in good health, who takes care of his fans. Today I say no to most of the proposals coming in, because I rather want to do a few amazing concerts instead of many stressfull ones.
There are times where I regret saying no to the big men in suits in America, there are times when I wish I had experienced the crazy hype of an American commercial pop star. But then I see how easy it is to be swallowed whole by the big companies, like Justin Bieber did this week when he yelled at the fans and left the stage. Of course he didn’t want to be cruel to his fans, it was just the last drop for him during a very stressfull promo campaign which he clearly got pushed into by the record company. It reminds me why I’m happy to be me, and no one else.
Sometimes I’m not in control of situations, but at least I’m prepared for them. And that’s because I have the best team around me, who respect me when I say enough is enough. And of course, I’m very happy because I have the best fans in the world who follow my career on Internet, even if I can’t visit each and every country. Because you know that when I first say yes to a show, it’s because I really want to do it.”
