This YouTube video I have notice in Facebook sharing. Have you all seen it before?

I am first attracted in this video because of the title of the video. I am quite curious about the little girl of her crazy reaction.

This video surprises me because of the result after sharing effect. The little girl and her mother were invited to join the Ellen show. Also, it helps to create a meeting of the little girl and the singer of Maroon 5. It is so amusing and unbelievable. I cannot image the power of sharing can achieve the dream of the little girl. I hope I can have such an experience of my life through the impact of the social media. It is better be a positive experience instead of bad.

I do agree with you as that just like a miracle to meet someone you like, someone you have never thought that one day you will have the chance to talk with. But we are lucky as we can share her happiness via this video :)

To what extent is “sharing” a valuable form of participation in the participatory culture?

I agree “sharing” is a valuable form of participation in the participatory culture.

Let me take Facebook be my example to explain my opinion.

 Facebook is a popular social media. It produces a lot of information and message for us everyday. People can follow the pages and make friends in such the platform.

 We can easily to see that people would like to take the button of “Like” instead of “Share”. It is because share the post will appear in your personal page. If a person also share the post no matter what is the content about. The post will not be significant and meaningful to the other. However, if a person often share the post, the content of the post will be more attention and meaningful. The post is posted “worth” sharing because of the information or message about himself or herself or the world that in order to allow the other people notice.

Here is the example to show the content of the sharing. All you can guess the reason they need to share.

Characteristics of big data

Big Data is mainly has 3 characteristics.

1.     Volume

Volume means that the massive volume of data. The development of computer and social media increases the volume of the message. Some of the companies are facing the amount of data at a unit of TB per day. Take an example to discuss; the data of a hospital will handle the data of the patients per day. The new data will be created when it has a new patient.

2.     Velocity

Velocity means that the speed of create the data is too fast. Big data mostly handle the information like business industries, network and social media. The flow of data is massive and change all the time. The real-time data can help the workers to make the corresponding processing to tackle the problem and maintain the situation. For example, the finance worker needs to monitor the trend of the market. The changing data shows immediately so that they could solve the problem in a short time.

3.     Variety

We are not only searching information on the Internet. Also, we can produce the messages such as photo, video, email, etc. The form of data can be variety. Thus, the data will be more considerable. Social media is a good example to describe this characteristic of big data. Facebook is one of the popular social media platforms. Users can create their fans page by sharing the photos and videos.

Web 1.0

For Web 1.0, it is a read-only web for the users. The websites owners produce and provide the information that is available for the web users to search and read. Web 1.0 is passive. It includes much information that we need to know, for example, government websites.

Web 2.0

For Web 2.0, users start to produce information in network platform. They can share their idea or opinion. Web 2.0 such likes a platform for them to have interaction. The examples of Web 2.0 are blog and Weibo.

Web 3.0

For Web 3.0, the operation such likes Web 2.0. However, the version of Web 3.0 is amusing than 2.0. It is interpersonal-oriented. It will depend on the behavior of the users in order to provide the specific information or advertising that they may be interested. One of the examples is Facebook. It collects the data of the users and displays the appropriate advertising or page for them to enhance the target audiences.

In what ways can you relate to this course?

The development of media helps us be more convenient in order to change our life in a better way. It is hard to imagine what kind of life we have before the invention of media.

Honestly, I am quite relying on digital media in recent time. It is because I can get any information throughout the Internet as long as you can type.

Here are the examples of my daily life about using digital media.

1. Know up-to-date information:

I am quite paying attention about my surroundings so that I was used to watch news report on television every day. However, I change the habit when the mobile network is available to all of us. I would like to receive the news through mobile phone instead of watching television. The mobile apps like Facebook and Apple daily will update and post the information immediately. It is no limit whatever the time and the place you are.

2. Entertainment

I could watch variety show from the other countries like Korea. One of the famous programs is ‘Running Man’. Although the language of the show is using Korean, it would be translated into Chinese caption. The speed to release an episode even is the same time as in Korea.

3. Academic Use

If I need to do the research or find the information, Internet is the first choice for me. Internet will give me more than one thousand results about a keyword that is just spending in a second. Whatever you want data, image or definition. Also, many books and creations are changed to be digital. The invention of digital media helps me to save the time and be more convenient.

What topic(s) in our 13-week schedule are you interested in?

I am interested in the topic about YouTube.

YouTube is my favorite channel to watch many shows and programs. It also covers different categories of movies. I use YouTube every day, not only on mobile phone, but also on television. I am interested it because it is considered as one of my entertaining event. I would like to know more about the culture of YouTube as I seldom study in it.

YouTube is not only a platform for us to watch the movies or shorts. It also attracts people to share their movies to the group that has common interest. I could find a lot of fun when I spend time on YouTube. I cannot imagine that how can I live without YouTube.

What question(s) do you have about new media culture (or the above topics that you are interested) now?

 New Media improves our lifestyle and has effective impact for us. What is the darkness side of new media? Is it depending on the user of new media or the phenomenon after using new media?

 How about the issue of Mainland China? They block Facebook and YouTube and prohibit the people in China to contact the Internet?
