Ride the Vanguard, PreCure!: A Pretty Cure x Cardfight!! Vanguard "Crossover" Introduction + Index
Welcome to a new series that I've been working on! As you know, I LOVE Cardfight!! Vanguard and Pretty Cure, so why not combine them? In this series, I'll be giving ALL of the mainline Cures a corresponding ace unit based on their personalities and/or aesthetics! Then, I'll give a rough idea of how the characters got their cards and how the plot is intertwined! This post merely serves as an introduction to the series and the rules I've set for it! If people like this series, I'll do some for other series I like! I mean I did make small headcanons for a Honkai Impact 3rd and Vanguard crossover with my sis once.

But as you can assume, this is gonna be ANOTHER long series and there's at least 21 main seasons to cover, so each of the seasons will get their own posts (except Max Heart and Precure 5 GoGo since I'm merging them both into the Futari wa Precure post and the Percure 5 post)! Plus, I need to explain Cardfight!! Vanguard!
Cardfight!! Vanguard is a card game series created by Akira Ito (who previous drew Yu-Gi-Oh! R). It is explained that all of the characters within the card art live on a far away planet named Planet Cray with the card game being a connection to that world and some people are able to communicate with said cards. When playing, you arrive on Planet Cray as astral spirits (think ghosts) and possess the bodies of your cards in order to fight. The game ends when a player has 6 damage. If you wanna learn how to play the card game, check out the official Cardfight!! Vanguard channel!
In Vanguard, imagination is your strength. Your own power will become the path to victory! Imagination is a BIG part of the Vanguard series and it's what allows the players to take part of the actions on Cray.
There are 24 clans and each clan belongs to one of the five nations in the original lore (but I will not explain their mechanics since this isn't about the gameplay). These clans and nations are-
United Sanctuary
Royal Paladin - Standard technological medieval setting. Poster boy of the series and is the clan of sunshines and rainbows. Power of friendship baby!
Shadow Paladin - The edgy Royal Paladin that works in the shadows. They often work together with Royal Paladin, but they're basically the illuminati of Royal Paladin.
Gold Paladin - A combination of Royal and Shadow Paladin. In the original lore, the remnants of Royal and Shadow Paladin were defeated by aliens so they came together to form Gold Paladin. They use the power of edginess and friendship as their strength.
Oracle Think Tank - Fortune tellers and gods that assist the United Sanctuary. It was once said that if Royal Paladin is the sword, then Oracle Think Tank is their shield.
Genesis - More fortune tellers and gods that assist the United Sanctuary but they're a cooperation and funded by EVERY nation.
Angel Feather - Angels that work at the hospital. They've seen things.
Dragon Empire
Kagero - Big scary dragons. Most of them control fire.
Narukami - Big scary dragons. ALL of them control thunder and lightning.
Nubatama - Big scary dragons that learned how to become ninjas. Go to them if you want stealth and information.
Murakumo - Big scary dragons and furries that learned how to be samurais and ninjas. Oh, and there's some youkai there too. Go to them if you want murder done.
Tachikaze - Big scary dinosaurs that have big guns and like to cannibalize each other cause it's the circle of life.
Star Gate
Link Joker - Alien invaders that were the main enemies throughout the original series. They were later assimilated into Planet Cray and live peacefully with everyone.
Nova Grappler - Robot. Lots of robots. They got a fight club called the Nova Grapple (RULE #1 OF FIGHT CLUB YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB)
Dimension Police - Full of evil aliens and heroic gundams. Basically think your standard tokusatsu stuff.
Dark Zone
Pale Moon - An assassin group disguised as a circus. Lots of sinister stuff happens here so watch your back. EVERY thing here can kill you.
Dark Irregulars - A bunch of demons and vampires and stuff but they kill each other to gain power cause they're all sadistic and scary. It's a horror movie.
Gear Chronicle - A bunch of time travelers. Lots of steampunk stuff here.
Spike Brothers - Illegal sports ring full of orcs, demons, goblins, etc. They play a LOT of sports and like to play ROUGH. Oh, and when I say illegal, they use firearms and drugs during their matches.
Magallanica
Granblue - Dead pirates that come back to life and do whatever they want. Lots of zombies, ghosts, banshees, skeletons, any sort of undead monsters are here. It's a Halloween party.
Bermuda Triangle - Random mermaid idols that sing and dance
Aqua Force - Big navy that go boom and protect the planet
Zoo
Neo Nectar - A bunch of talking humanoid plants that bring food to the entire nation.
Great Nature - A bunch of furries made a school. Lots of fluffy and cuddly animals made a school and it's the BEST school on Cray.
Megacolony - Evil scary bugs that are basically the mafia. Don't go near them. They're SCARY.
However, the clans would later merge into a single nation during the 2021 reboot of the series which is known as Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress. Each of these clans no longer exist and now form one single nation. These nations are-
Keter Sanctuary - After several civil war and natural disasters split United Sanctuary apart, the nation was "reunited" as "Ketergia" and was split into two. The rich reside within the sky islands while the poor reside on the ground. While the nation still values noble justice, it's merely for their own gain. Probably one of the most dangerous places on Cray.
Dragon Empire (Name is still the same) - The nation that has prospered the most due to their exceeding military and magical power. The current biggest of all the nations. They're currently pretty "peaceful" (we hope). Probably one of the most dangerous places on Cray next to Keter but they're fighting over that title.
Brandt Gate - Star Gate has continued to technologically evolve, serving as the security for the entire planet if some otherworldly threat where to arrive. Together, they band together to prepare themselves against the threat known as the Void...Kinda safe. Don't live here.
Dark States - A hero of Gear Chronicle united Dark Zone into one nation, allowing the people to enter an era of "prosperity". Although there are laws in place, it's still kind of hectic. DEFINITELY the most dangerous place on Cray.
Stoicheia - The nation of Zoo and Magallanica had fused to become one great nation. Together, the nation promotes the teaching of a great sage that united them in the past. Probably one of the most peaceful places in this new era.
Lyrical Monestario - Bermuda Triangle split off from Stoicheia to form their own nation and they're living on a flying whale. They now operate an idol school that accepts any race (and I presume gender but we don't see any men idols) and trains the next generation of idols. Literally the most ACTUAL peaceful place in this new era.
And now some rules for this series!
Rule 1: No movie Cures, Side Characters, Fairy partners, or Villains (For Now!).
This rule is in place in order to save me from researching each and every exclusive movie Cure. All Pretty Cures that are seen on screen and are counted as being part of the main team count. But there will be some exceptions. If they tie into the new plot I thought of, then they will be included (like Cure Tomorrow, George Kurai, Satoru and Daifuku Toyama, or other characters that are tied into the plot I thought of). Shiny Luminous and Milky Rose will also be included since they are considered part of the main team. There may be a future post where I go over the movie and other end of season Cures.
Rule 2: New Precure seasons will be added during their final arc.
This rule is in place because at the time of writing this, Kimi to Idol Pretty Cure has just started and I don't really know what to pair them with. I would rather wait till near the end of the series so I have all of the details available before making any sort of assumptions and having to rewrite everything. Which means Uta, Nana, and Kokoro will have to wait! Plus, I heard there's gonna be two more Cures added during the midseason so I'd love to include them too!
Rule 3: Only the main 24 Clans and 6 Nations will be included.
This rule is in place cause I only have knowledge of the original 24 Clans and 6 Nations within the game and anime. Because of that, none of the non-tournament legal, manga exclusive, and Thai-exclusive clans will be included. However, Cray Elementals are included because they belong to all clans and nations in game and in lore.
Rule 4: No crossover Nations and/or Clans
This rule is in place because Vanguard does have some crossover Clans and Nations made for the game. Some of these include Monster Strike, BanG Dream!, Touken Ranbu, SHAMAN KING, and a bunch of other ones. But like rule 4, I'm only using the 24 Clans and 6 Nations, so these crossovers will not be included.
But the real question is...how am I gonna match the Cures with their ace units????
Simple! I'll be following these steps!
1. Design!
Basically I analyze the civilian forms, cure outfits, and/or the naming and themes of the Cures and see if I can match them with any of the cards I find!
2. Personality!
Here, I analyze their personalities and see if I can match them with a card that they would get along with! This part however is split into two parts. I'm mainly aiming for a card that would match their personalities or contrast with their personalities. That way, they can develop their relationship and become friends!
As for how I'll attach the story of the cards to the cures, it'll be a surprise!
Next, there's this thing that I'm very excited about! I kinda stole it from my sister's Vanguard crossover stories, but she said I can use it too so it's okay!
Introducing the "Oath" System!
A new power is unlocked when the hearts of the user and their ace unit become one, unleashing a new form for the ace unit and a new card for the user to use! The title will look like this!
Oath of "(something that describes the character and/or themes of their media)", (unit name) "(something that describes the character and/or themes of their media)"
When all of these all filled in, it'll look like this!

Ride the Vanguard, PreCure!: A Pretty Cure x Cardfight!! Vanguard Crossover (Episode 2)
Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star
It's time for the thing that I've been working on for a LONG long time! Welcome back to the next episode of Ride the Vanguard, PreCure! and as promised, I'll be talking about the next series! It's time to talk about Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star! I've been excited to write for this one since I don't know it that well, but I'm really excited to learn! Because of that, I may get things wrong, so let me know if there's anything I should add!

Finally, thank you all SO much for waiting for me to finish this! Although I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who has been very excited for this project, I just want to thank you all for your patience in waiting for me to get all of my writing requests finished while also working on this at the same time! I hope you all enjoy~!
Before deciding their units, I had to pick some kind of theme to follow. Since the theme of the show is about the beauty of nature, I decided to lean into that aspect! Because of that, their cards will be from the same nation aka Zoo and Stoicheia (check my vanguard information post for more about the nations and clans!)! It took me a long time to find cards that would fit these girls, but I think I finally found them!
So....here's they are~!
Card Lore + Relationships
Saki Hyuga/Cure Bloom/Cure Bright
For Saki, I felt like she needed something that would fit into her flower theme. This led me to check out a bunch of Stoicheia and Zoo units (specifically Neo Nectar) to find anything that would fit her personality! Unfortunately, a LOT of the ones I had in mind were already given to other precures, so there weren't many options left...so I skipped Splash Star and focused on some other precures. However, I've finally found a unit that would fit! Introducing her ace unit, Lavien Lord, Granfia and the Noblessrose Token archetype!
The reason Granfia was chosen is because of his mechanic! Like a bunch of other Stoicheia decks, Granfia focuses on calling plant tokens to aid his comrades and himself. However, he also combines them into creating a super plant token known as the Noblessrose Token! Since Saki loves food and works at her family's bakery, I thought the plant tokens could represent ingredients for a recipe while the Noblessrose Token represents the finished product! Plus, Saki is pretty active and from the lore I can find on Granfia, he seems to be a little shy and is bad at speaking so an outgoing and active girl like her would help bring him out of his shell! I know Saki's official flower is a poppy, but I couldn't really find anything and the other flower cards were already given to other precures...sorry...!
In terms of their relationship, it's mostly Saki acting like an older sister to Granfia! Being the adorable, selfless, and optimistic girl she is, Saki is always looking out for Granfia and her little sister and treats Granfia like part of her family! While some people may call him her pet, Saki constantly admits that Granfia is a part of her family and sees him as a caring brother who's always looking out for everyone! When it comes to Granfia, he's a kind, wise, and gentle man who has trouble being social while Saki is usually encouraging him to improve! That doesn't mean she hates it when Granfia is locked up in his library all the time. She just wants him to come outside and experience things first hand! Speaking of his library, Granfia adores it when Saki and Mai visit so they can study for tests or anything like that. He's always assisting them with their classes whenever he can and both of them are grateful for it! Although he's too shy to admit it, Granfia does appreciate and love Saki like an older sister and can sometimes act like a lost puppy when he misses her. Saki also loves to feed Granfia when he's called to dinner and sometimes asks him to taste test new products for PANPAKA Pan Bakery!
Fun fact! Granfia ABSOLUTELY adores Mai and adores talking to her science and finds books with beautiful landscapes, stories, or just helpful drawing tips to help Mai gain inspiration!
When it comes to their first encounter, Saki actually met Granfia when he was pretty young! In Vanguard, there's a chain of evolution known as a Ride Line (think of it like a Pokemon evolution tree like how Pichu evolves into Pikachu then Raichu). In Vanguard, these Ride Lines can depict allies of the main boss unit or younger versions of those boss units! Granfia is the latter as his Ride Line involves a bunch of cute younger versions of himself! When Saki and Mai first met under the Sky Tree, Saki met this cute little Granfia!
After that day, Granfia would learn of his destiny to protect Saki and become her chosen partner which would lead him to grow strong and become someone that can protect Saki! Since these Granfia arts are really cute, I'll share them!
Time passes between Planet Cray and Earth, so Granfia becoming an adult within the past five years can happen. I also thought it would be cute if Granfia would occasionally go to the Sky Tree and hope to see Saki again! Eventually, he would meet her once Flappy and Choppy attempt to find him and Mai's chosen partners, rallying them together to help them defeat the Dark Fall!
And here's the Oath System! As a reminder to those who haven't seen my previous Precure x Vanguard posts, the Oath System represents the bond between a Precure and their cards, allowing them to get a power up! Since Saki and Mai have two Precure names, I tried to work both of them into their units Oath names! Without further ado, here's Granfia!
Oath of the Moon Flower, Granfia the Lunar Lord
I won't describe their designs anymore cause...well...I'm too lazy and I can't think of anything...I'm sorry...
Since Granfia has an upgrade, I like to think Saki upgraded Granfia the next time we see them in any kind of Precure all stars or in Otona Precure! Everyone meet Granfia's new form, Radien Lord, Granfia Julament!
He looks so much more confident, and I'm so proud of him! Saki would be proud too!
Next, let's talk about Mai!
Mai Mishou/Cure Egret/Cure Windy
For Mai, she needed something that fits into her wind theme. I couldn't really think of anything right away, so I decided to focus on other precure teams and finish Splash Star later. Luckily, I found the perfect unit thanks to the Youthquake manga (which is a fun read I really adore it!) that fits with her wind and bird theme! Introducing her ace unit, Belgr the Skyruler and the Skyruler archetype!
The reason Belgr was chosen is very simple! Mai's theme is about the wind and birds! And since Belgr is a bird, he'd be a perfect fit! Still, there's actually more to it besides that- Although there isn't any official card lore on Belgr (I'll make my own for this lol), his dialogue (yeah Vanguard cards have dialogue that gives insight to their lore) portrays him as a very calculating, calm, and respectful person. I feel like he would pair well with Mai!
When it comes to their relationship, Belgr seems to be a very calm, stoic, and calculating man. I feel like he'd get along with Mai really well! He seems like a wise scholar so I bet he'd assist Mai and Saki with their homework. I think Mai would enjoy him a lot and treat him with lots of respect! Belgr most likely assist Mai with any sort of issues she may have, whether it be personal or just school stuff. They basically have a basic teacher and student relationship and I think it'd be adorable! Belgr probably enjoys hanging out around her family too since they're all scientific! Honestly, their relationship isn't that deep, but I still think it's cute!
Just like Saki, Mai also encountered her unit under the Sky Tree when she met Saki for the first time! Unlike Granfia, Belgr unfortunately doesn't have a Ride Line that starts with him as a child and grows into an adult. Instead, and like most cards, his Ride Line consists of his trusted allies! However...I think it'd be more adorable if Mai met one of Belgr's followers instead! Specifically, these cute rabbits!
Like Granfia, these Follower Rabbits met a young Saki and Mai along with Flappy and Choppy under the Sky Tree when they were kids. Of course, all of them played together and had fun but when Mai moved out of town, the bunnies were sad to see their newfound friend leave. Since the bunnies serve Belgr, they would often tell Belgr about Mai which would lead him to visit Granfia to discuss the situation. Belgr would understand that he would become Mai's fated partner and would prepare for that future alongside Granfia (despite doing it in different ways). Since Belgr never met Mai, he would patiently wait for the day she would return and would often discuss their goals with Flappy and Choppy.
Another cute thought that I had is when Mai, Granfia, the rabbits, and Saki first met under the Sky Tree when they were younger, Mai drew a picture of all of them having fun and Granfia and the bunnies kept that image to remember.
And finally, here's Belgr's Oath form! As mentioned with Saki, I tried to work both of Mai's Precure identities into this one!
Oath of the Skybound, Belgr the Heavenruler
Unfortunately, Belgr doesn't have an upgrade form...he is a very new card after all (he was just released in game in the summer of 2025), so it makes sense that he doesn't have anything yet. But when he does, I'll be updating this section!
Story: Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star
Five long years had past after Mishou Mai and Hyuuga Saki had met under the Sky Tree a long time ago. In that time, their fated Vanguard partners, Belgr the Skyruler, and Lavien Lord, Granfia, had been preparing for the day they would meet again. Once Flappy and Choppy had informed them about the girls' reunion, the beasts reintroduce themselves while the kids began to recall their past meeting. As the Dark Fall begins to breach into the Land of Greenery, Mai and Saki would unite to become the Pretty Cures and attempt to defeat the threat with their new partners by their side!
Honestly, this was very easy to write for me. All I had to do was figure out where to place their meeting and considering that Mai and Saki met at the Sky Tree when they were kids, it felt like a good place to start! Then, I just had to figure out what happened next which wasn't hard either.
And that's it! Thank you all so much for all of your patience and waiting for me to get this done! To those who look forward to seeing their favorite Precure seasons, I hope my thoughts will entertain you!

Since June 10th is Saaya's bday and I got a cute Saaya and Homare card a few months ago, I decided to deco it for her bday!

It's no surprise that Mai happens to like girls to the eyes of others; like very much.
Not even batting attention to any men's flirting or courting towards her. Especially if said men are attractive or plain. She would always move away from them and go instead tend, and sometimes be forward, to the girls. Even places some lipstick markings on her letters and photos to a special girl that she like.

And for Tsukasa, that's something only he knows exactly what going on with his stepsister liking to the same sex after his father married to her mother.
His eyes gazed over to the usually smiling, though oddly bright, face of his sister, palms in her hands and head tit dreamily as a dust of pink form in her face.
He internally sighs. He can tell what she is really thinking after watching her favorite anime of a pink-haired girl who wants to be a prince and the Rose Bride she's with.

Yep as you can see from the hints and Tsukasa's end response: Mai is a lesbian and she knows it very well.
Plus given it's pride month, I have a cute sketch of Mai daydreaming as a prince kneeling in front of her lady/princess with roses around them. Definitely ofc inspired by Revolutionary Girl Utena, which happens to be one of Mai's favorite animes to watch.
And yes, the roses colors are indeed lesbian coded 🩷🧡🤍
