MELODIE RYAN INTRO
full name: melodie grace ryan
birthdate: december 9
zodiac sign: sagittarius
occupation: literature teacher @ davenport academy
sexuality: bisexual
romantic orientation: biromantic
hometown: maple brook
Melodie was born to her parents, Daisy and James Ryan on December 9 at Maple Brook General. She was born as the only biological child in a family of 4 other children, all boys, all adopted by Daisy and James. Growing up, the family never treated Melodie’s 4 brothers as anything other than blood, and she has never looked at them in any other way.
Academics were something Melodie always excelled at, though her love for reading, literature, and writing always overtook her passion for any other subject. Spending hours in her room reading and writing, she always dreamed of working somewhere in the literary field. One of her life goals is to write her own novel. It’s something she has started several times, but thus far has lacked the confidence to finish.
Despite her love for her family and for Maple Brook, Melodie always dreamed of traveling, of seeing the world, and of expanding her horizons. Wanting to meet as many people and experience as many cultures as possible, she began planning and saving to leave Maple Brook at the young age of 12, determined to see her dreams through into reality.
After graduating high school Melodie took her first step towards one of her dreams by attending college out of state, and in fact going all the way to Seattle, Washington. College life agreed with Melodie, she excelled in her studies and in her social life, and found herself thriving on her journey.
During the second half of her first year at college, Melodie met a man whom she fell madly in love with, very quickly. After having had only a few failed relationships throughout high school, she recognized that she felt very differently about this individual, and became convinced that they would marry. And, right she was. During their junior year of college the two became engaged, and were married just after graduating their senior year. Things seemed perfect, and Melodie felt she was finally going to be able to curate a life she’d always dreamed of.
The pair settled in Portland, Oregon, though they traveled often. On the surface, and perhaps a bit deeper, everything seemed and felt perfect. However, trouble was apparently brewing, unbeknownst to Melodie until one day, after 20 years of marriage (when Melodie was 43), she awakened one morning to find her husband, and the majority of his possessions, completely gone. There had been no clear warning in Melodie’s mind, and the only explanation she received came in the form of a scrawled note reading ‘I’m sorry. Don’t come looking’.
Melodie has spent the last 3 years attempting to rebuild her life. After taking the first year to make a plan, she moved herself back to her hometown to re-start and hopefully regain some semblance of her dream life.
In the future I would like to see a plot where her ex comes back into the picture and tracks her down, however that might play out.

The marching band always had a way of getting under Cordelia's skin. Perhaps it was because they never sold the amount of popcorn required, or maybe it was because their performances sounded like one sad tuba heaving his last breath and sucking all of the other instruments into his brassy vortex. That, and the percussionists were always off. But today, her main irritation was the fact that she had to babysit them on their bonding trip through a hayride extravaganza. Because unfortunately, parents wanted their children to have the pillar of success and education at the halls of Davenport, but they'd rather not dirty their hands with the chaperoning of it all.
So Cordelia is sequestered onto a hayride with her bundle of children, ranging from 14-18 and personally out to get her, when she sees someone in the crowd. "Oh, hey!" She greeted, waving her hand to call them over. "Plenty of room still left on this ride." She stood up and the children immediately took her beloved corner seat, scooting over to make room for the new body that'd be joining them. As Cordelia neared the end of the platform she was on, her voice dropped lower and she said, "Please don't leave me alone with them." After a beat, her whisper is an ounce more dire. "They're talking about starting a live. It's a hayride for god's sake."
Smiling, Melodie made her way out the back entrance of the Haunted House and towards the Hayride, taking care to ensure she wouldn't bump into anyone or misstep and take a tumble, as she'd been prone to do in the past. Crossing her arms over her chest in an effort to shield against the chilling air. Stepping into line, her attention was drawn by a commotion up ahead, and she craned her neck around the line to get a better view of whatever was happening.
Immediately she realized she recognized several teenage faces mixed up in the ruckus, pinpointing them as being several of her students from Davenport Academy. Scanning the crowd, her eyes quickly landed upon Cordelia, who had obviously been roped into chaperoning the group. Giving a quick wave Melodie made her way over, taking the open seat offered to her and laughing candidly at the others' comments. "Kids will be kids, I suppose." Mel replied with a small shrug of her shoulders. "Why fight it? Just let them do what they're going to do. It's easier that way, as long as there's no blood drawn." Laughing, she extended a hand to her boss. "It's great to see you tonight Cordelia. I don't mind helping to chaperone, not at all."

location: jack o'lantern lane @ station 5
the twins had fallen asleep in their stroller on the walk over to the fire station, which was for the best (even if it wasn't exactly naptime). once they were out, they could sleep through anything, so the noises of the fire station and other people there to look at the displays didn't seem to bother them. maneuvering through the small crowd, alvaro finds a place to pull over near a small refreshment table, grabbing a small bottle of water for himself. "so which one's your favorite?" he asks the next person that approaches, flashing a smile. "it's a pretty impressive display this year."
After completely failing to do anything fall-related for the past two years, Melodie had made the executive decision that once fall began this year, she would absolutely do whatever it took to get into the spirit. She'd purchased and put up the decorations, baked several cozy fall treats, and had even watched a couple of scary movies. Now, she found herself meandering around the firehouse, taking in all the Lanes had to offer. Making her way to the refreshment table, Melodie plucked a single cookie from one of the trays, getting ready to dig in when a nearby voice drew her attention. "That it is! And, the Jack-'o'-Lanterns aren't too bad either!" She joked, laughing before giving a small shake of her head. "Kidding, kidding. Comedy isn't my strong suit, I should definitely stick to my day job. But, ugh, honestly it's so hard to choose. I'm stuck between that one and that one, there." She replied, pointing to two pumpkins set up in the center lanes. "What about you? Spotting any frontrunners?"

for: closed for @allwegetnow (sugar)
Taking hold of her drink, Melodie made her way to an empty table close to the back of the bar, keeping one eye on the door as she awaited Sugar's arrival. Their paths had crossed early on during her time in Maple Brook, and what began as a professional relationship had managed to cross over into something akin to friends. Taking a sip, she raised her free hand as she saw Sugar enter the bar.
After waiting patiently for him to order and receive his drink, Melodie waved Sugar over, standing to offer a quick hug before sliding back into her seat. "It's great to see you, I'm glad you were able to make it!" She greeted as he settled himself. "Tell me, how are things in the writing business?"
