this is where i am right now. as you can see, i haven’t logged on here in a very long time, and i’m so sorry about that. and i’m sorry i never shared this info with you sooner. lots of things are different and i wanted to plant new seeds.
i’ll be keeping this blog up for archival purposes, but all new work and events will be posted on my new tumblr platform. it would mean a lot if you joined me there.

Here it is. My first ever independent zine.
I'm so excited to share this with you all, and to be a part of the 429 Collective, a collective of some of the most creative and innovative people I know and am happy to call my friends.
THREE A.M. is a tender, honest, and confessional piece of work that centers around loneliness, the personal, intimacy, and trauma. It is thirty pages (including the cover) long and part of a limited edition series of 100 copies. It features words, drawings, and images by yours truly, Mar Pascual.
THREE A.M. will be available for purchase at the 429 Collective table at this year's LA Zine Fest, taking place tomorrow, February 16th, 2014.

I no longer go by my legal name, and have also decided to implement this professionally in regards to this art blog and my website. Both of these have already been changed. It might take a bit of time getting used to (especially for long-time followers and other contacts established with the original name), but I wanted to address this so you would know.

Hi friends! I hope you are enjoying the new year so far.
I'm working two jobs and back at school as a full-time student, so I'm finding it difficult as of late to update this blog regularly.
But I'm working on a zine for LA Zine Fest, making prints for the upcoming Painting Guild sale at my school, and starting some new collage work!

"Using my own hand as a base material, I considered it a canvas upon which I stitched into the top layer of skin using thread to create the appearance of an incredibly work worn hand. By using the technique of embroidery, traditionally employed to represent femininity and applying it to the expression of it’s opposite, I hope to challenge the pre-conceived notion that ‘women’s work’ is light and easy. Aiming to represent the effects of hard work arising from employment in low paid ancillary jobs such as cleaning, caring, and catering, all traditionally considered to be ‘women’s work’"

This is one of my submissions for the upcoming cat-themed exhibition (juried by Martha Rich!) the CSUN Painting Guild is putting together. It's a bit of a deviation from the types of things I normally post, but I enjoyed working on this nonetheless.
First of all, we want to give a HUGE thank you to all who submitted!
We were very happy to see so many submissions! However, some of the images we received were not clear/incorrectly formatted, so for that reason, we’ll be extending the deadline. Submissions will now be due at 11:59 pm on Friday, December 6th. If you missed the deadline the first time around, here is another opportunity to submit! If selected, your piece will be included in an exhibition juried by Martha Rich, as well as in a printed catalogue! This is an excellent self promotional publication that you will be able to use in your portfolio and can be listed on your website and resume.
If you need help taking good photographs of your work, refer here, as it offers tips that could assist you.

I am so excited for this! I'll be posting more about it when I get to work on my zines this winter break!
I'm a bit rusty with drawing since I've come back from my little hiatus, and I'm trying to get back into the habit of making work every day. Dedicating a few hours every night is helpful, but sometimes it's still difficult to work without a support group. However, that's not the case tonight. I logged on and was amazed to find that my most recent set of sketches had collected about 700 notes in less than 24 hours. I was surprised to see so many new faces following me. My ask box is full, and I thank you for your comments, compliments, and questions. I will get to answering them soon. Thank you for all your likes, reblogs, and follows.Thank you for sharing this space with me and for looking at my art. It's incredibly motivating to feel the support from those I have not yet had the chance to meet. I'm touched, honored, and happy you're here.
