Nishizumi Miho Niitengo 2.5 figure, bundled with Dengeki Hobby May 2014 issue
figma 193 Kuroki Rei from Vividred Operation
the beautiful poster that came with 1st edition PMMM Battle Pentagram for psvita, ordered from cdjapan :3
~homucifer~
I can't look at my Homu the same way any more after having seen Rebellion Story (;~;)
figma Akane Isshiki from the mecha magical girl series Vividred Operation, school uniform version.
Kotobukiya Cu-Poche Dark Magician Girl from Yu-Gi-Oh!
Parts:
-Dark Magician Girl
-3 expressions (Smiling, winking, scared)
-Various hand gestures
-Staff, book of spells, heart effect, star effect!
-Magnetic base (also magnets on her feet!)
Some key points:
~Very very cute! The Cu-Poche body has a little more defined shape than nendoroids (i.e. less stubby)!
~The facial expressions are chou kawaii! Attaching "heart"/"star" effect parts are an added charm that completes the whimsical magic girl look
~The magnetic base is a nice touch, perfect for standing poses but does nothing for these flying type characters~
~Hands were a little difficult to remove from the wrist joints :/
~The hair piece has very nice sweeping lines and texture, but is completely solid which means very heavy! Add on her magician's hat and she is very top-heavy, she will tip over sometimes :/
Overall very good figure, Kotobukiya's take on kawaii figures is spot-on! I'm interested in taking a look at Cu-Poche Saber next!
REVIEW: D-Arts Rokusho
Hi all, after the last post (Figuarts Barnaby), I began writing the next review, but seemed to have gotten sidetracked! I began playing around with my Bamboo tablet and some Paint Tool Sai tutorials! I'm still pretty bad, but when I come up with presentable art I will start posting here :3
Next is D-Arts Rokusho! I picked him up at Anime Expo at the Bluefin booth on Day 4 right as the exhibit hall closed! (#impulsebuying :p) I actually never did an official list of my AX loot this year, let me try to name them off the top of my head:
Nendoroid Miku Natsutsubaki Ver,
Nendoroid Madoka Maiko Ver. x2 (one sold on ebay :p)
Nendoroid Miku Sakura Ver.
Homura Akemi You are not alone ver.
Oreimo wall scroll (apparently imported, exclusive from Anime Contents in Japan)
D-Arts Rokusho
Oreimo KirinoxMeruru Keychain
Some random white wig for cosplays, 1st wig ever! Will post when I get around to playing with it
Moekanji flashcard set from Mirai Mart~
Can't seem to think of anymore :p
Back to Rokusho! He is from the Bandai Tamashii Nations D-arts line, he was released a while ago (the website lists the release at 1/21/2012) I guess they found one of him lying around the warehouse and decided to sell him!
He comes a neat little box~ The box features technical graduations and bolt patterns to fit the robot theme!
I first watched Medabots when they aired it on Fox Kids many moons ago! Back then I was in high school and just "getting into" anime~~~ The story of the series follows the generic shonen "collect and battle creatures/robots/spirits/younger siblings" pattern, but from what I remember it was entertaining enough to follow for the first season, and the English dub wasn't too bad. Rokusho was more on the lower tier of characters I liked, I was Team Sumilidon~~~
He doesn't come with a base stand! But at the same time, he doesn't need one :3 The basic Medabot anatomy is somewhat squat, but with large hands and feet! Rokusho's feet provide a nice stable platform. He has a nice solid weight, but it's distributed well that he can stand on his own easily.
Kinda cheap because the character's design is very simple without any complex textures, but the figure looks very clean and polished! The joints are a nice die cast metal. The translucent blue section of the helmet is a nice touch.
The shoulder pads and hands. It's not a manufacturing defect, his hands really do stick out in that weird kinda way :3 More smooth polished surfaces~
Being an older figure, the joint design in the knee here looks kinda strange, but still looks good on a robot! There is a double pivoting action here, which allows an unusual segmented flexibility in the knee. It is also made of metal. The lighting in this shot shows the sparkly effect of the blue sections!
The Chanbara Sword! The two segments can rotate freely in the backhand part for an open or closed position. While still cool, I much preferred Sumilidon's shadow claw weapon thingy~
Just a little flexing~
The horns on the head can also pivot about! I guess they would point down if he's sad :3
Various facial expressions! Changing the eye shape seems to be the only way he show's his feeling :p Also, the internal sections of the head house a nice robotic skeleton looking part! Nice feature~~
The ankle joints! Also double jointed, allowing him to pose on his tip toes :3
The whole pelvic area seems to have a solid metal encasing! This is a very ideal area to place a heavy portion of a figure. He has a steel core~~~~
Some switchable wrist parts~ The left arm with the pistons extended was some sort of gimmick punch thingy :3
And one of the coolest features of a Medabot, the Medal! This gives each Medabot its personality. In a battle, the after sustaining enough damage, a Medabot's medal will pop out and it ceases to function. It was a good idea to put this feature in the figure, however the door part doesn't swing cleanly on its hinge, and the medal does not fit too snugly in the recess. Oh well :/
The cloak, front and back! Rokusho is introduced in the series as a ronin type of character, wandering about with no master. Of course he enters in a cool fashion, appearing out of nowhere in a raggedly cloak and saving a kitten from a river :3 The sculpting on this part gives it a nice windswept look; being molded out of a softer plasticized PVC, it is easy to take on and off.
Back of the cloak, gives the cool walking off into the distance look!
Justice has no master~
That's it for now, thanks for the read! Who was your favorite Medabot??
REVIEW: S.H. Figuarts Barnaby Brooks Jr.
Yohoo~ I haven't done a figure review in a while! Lots of things happening in the past few months, particularly Anime Expo and some things with church! But now that I have a free evening while playing Porno Graffiti's Best Reds album, I'm ready :3
Today we have the Figuarts of Barnaby Brooks Jr. from Tiger and Bunny by Bandai Tamashii Nations! For those not familiar, the Figuarts line "pursues Character Expression through Humanoid Action." The line is usually very highly detailed and has gimmicks such as incorporating metal construction into the figures. I got Barnaby at the same time as Wild Tiger from an Amazon sale, but never really had a chance to take pictures! Also I didn't like his character too much so I wasn't in any rush huehuehue
Shots of the box! All the S.H. Figuarts seems to have a standard box dimensions, allowing for easy stacking and storage, with some exceptions, such as Rock Bison (on my get-list)
Barnaby is the "Super Rookie" with the exact same power as veteran hero Wild Tiger :3 His suit is done in the same style as Tiger's, but he seems to have cooler corporate sponsor logos (BANDAI~) He also is the pretty boy of the series and has a good fashion sense~
Standing up! Barnaby has a similar heavy, weighted feel as Tiger due to some of the die cast metal components! I need to compare the weights with other Figuarts, currently trying to complete the Tiger and Bunny series! I also want to start getting into some of the tokusatsu series i.e. Kamen Rider and Super Sentai!
Close up of the upper body! A lot of the details are nicely captured here, namely the textures and lines on the black "body suit" portion of the suit, and the mask features! The paint is a little rough in some spots, but still looks great. Of note here are Barnaby's bunny ears, they are made of a thin plastic and feel a bit flimsy, be careful not to snap them off! Also they are pretty sharp~
Logos on the gauntlet segments~ The clear sections here might look good if you can set up some type of lighting and display! Also I tried to make Barnaby look this way in this shot, but with the design of the suit, the collar obstructs his range of motion slightly :/ (also true with Tiger)
A look at the joints, they blend very well with the mechanical look and feel of the figure! Also the translucent shoulder pads look very nice here, but seem a little loose (they will flap around a bit as you handle the figure).
A shot from the back! The wings and mini jet pack thingy are present as well, the wings can move around! You can see the recurring translucent pink colorway here, it is very well balanced! The back of the helmet also has a really cool pattern!
From this shot you can also see the segments in the chest, waist, hips, and legs; this allows for some very intricate poses~ Particularly in the legs, you can feel the outer plastic surface, but still have a sense of weight from the interior metal skeleton structure! A very nice design~
The feet are die cast! A lot of the weight is distributed towards the the bottom of the figure, which gives a nice balance for posing! Plus there is an extra joint at the ball of the foot/toe for even more flexibility!
Times are changing, old man!
No stand needed for this extreme position!
But a pretty spiffy bright red one is included for the poses that defy gravity~~~ (Check out how well the knee joint blends into the image when bent past a certain angle!) Bunny dash!
And of course, the Good Luck Mode accessory is included in all its excessive glory! Analogous to Tiger's Good Luck Mode fist, this one makes Barnaby's kick look much cooler in the last minute!
Also like Tiger's, the leg is a nice size but feels a little light, being made entirely of plastic. At least this allows the figure to still be posed comfortably, as a heavy die cast leg might not be able to be supported~
Some details of the leg, they really put some thought into its design! Mecha and superhero designers have a very good balance of technical vision and artistic expression! I may just try to make this guy in Solidworks myself for kicks! (pun intended~~~~ :3)
Some detail on the sole as well! Good Luck Kick!
My name is not Bunny! It's Barnaby!
All's well that ends well!
That's it for these guys, hopefully I can pick up more of the Tiger and Bunny crew soon!
Nova Launcher to accomodate my Vividred wallpaper ehehe

DESIGN: 3d Manuever Gear (Attack on Titan), Back Assembly(?)
Moving along in the planning/design stage of building a maneuver gear cosplay! The latest episode of Titan seemed to have a lot of good shots of the spinny parts on the back! Up until this last episode there were only very vague glimpses of this section of the gear, I think maybe they sensed my frustration and decided to put in some really detailed shots lol~
Modeling time in Solidworks was actually quite short, the various components in the back assembly are actually pretty simple looking (a lot of simple parts connected together is what makes it look complex). The hardest part of "reverse engineering" props/weapons/armors are getting the proportions and dimensions correct i.e. the round part looks like it would be the size of my hand -> make diameter 6 inches lol.
In the actual construction of the gear, I think I have decided on foam core shapes, then fiberglassing. This allows me to make all the custom shapes by chopping up and gluing together the foam board, then coating the foam parts with the fiberglass will make them extremely durable and lightweight! I thought about my original plan of sheet metal on the wings, and suddenly thought what would happen to my thighs if I walked around with those all day :33
Will continue to update as I progress!
Ahhhh, I just wanted to pop in and say I'll be at AX as Mikasa and that I can't wait to see your maneuver gear. If it looks anything like your model you will perhaps be the coolest person at the con
ehehehe thanks for your vote of confidence! I'll try my hardest!
DESIGN: 3d Manuever Gear (Attack on Titan), Left Wing(?)
Mentally preparing myself to build this beast for Anime Expo, currently in the conceptual phase :3 Designing this in 3D gives me a better grasp of its actual proportions and features, I think I am ready! Wish me luck!

REVIEW: Chogokin Saber
Hi all, sorry for the hiatus! Things have been a little hectic at work and church, and I haven't really had a chance to go out and find any cool new figures!
Just a few weeks back, I finally got around to watching Fate Stay Night, which I ended up very thoroughly enjoying, and quickly moved to Fate Zero which was also good, but in a different way (I personally think the title should have been Fate Rider :p)
So after finishing both series and falling in love with Saber, I somewhat understand now why she has become the "default" heroine character these past years! So naturally, I began looking for figures! Seeing as how the figma Fate characters had all been discontinued, I browsed my usual spot (Anime King Inc. in Irvine) and found this treasure:::::
CHOGOKIN SABER
I've seen the Chogokin line of figures around in the past, but thought they mainly had mechas! The Chogokin figures are generally known for the quality and the use of metal die-cast components; when I read that the armor parts on Saber were metal I immediately knew I must have her :333
((A note on this post, I lost my DSLR battery charger! Because I couldn't wait to dig into this figure, I used the next best thing: my phone camera (Droid Razr M)!!! Please let me know what you think of the pictures!))
The box itself has a very minimal, pure white theme. The text is in an embossed gold font, it looks extremely fancy! I felt just the package enough was worth the money!
Master Kiritsugu Emiya: as a side note, I hate this guy. Maybe because I have become a major Saber fanboy, I pretty much disagreed with everything Kiritsugu did all the way to the end of the series, but that's a separate discussion in itself >:3
Dramatic art on the box~
All the contents nestled in their trays!~ She comes with quite a few neat parts :3
SO BEAUTIFUL, I don't think I can even take her out of the package! It seems plastic film and paper was placed between some of the metal and plastic parts to prevent any damage from rubbing!
The first thing I noticed is that she is very heavy! It must be from all the metal parts!
Saber, the King of Knights!
The stern expression that suits her so well!
It seems that the breastplate, side skirts, and boots are the metal parts! The engravings on the breastplate here look amazing! A further little neat detail is the corset peeking out around her waist!
The joints also blend nicely with the figures design, there are combinations of ball/socket joints and pin joints used in Saber's different sections!
Rear view! The gauntlets were somewhat deceiving, as they are plastic :// but they still look great!
Saber's characteristic ribbon/braid/hair bun gives her that very elegant look! Unfortunately there is a small defect on the lock of hair hanging from the right side :(
I was so surprised when the side skirt moved!
Looking underneath, there is actually a segmented plastic assembly that the metal plates are attached to! This allows each of the 3 segments of the skirt to pivot at each attachment point! This way it can accommodate various movements and poses of the legs~
In fact, even the different sections of the actual dress are hinged! Very clever design!
The boots are very solid and heavy! There is articulation at the knee, ankle, AND at the toe! One more point than most figures have!
Decorative accents on the dress!
Dem shoulder pads~
The epic base and "energy" effect parts! A little disappointed that the "Saber" label is just a cheap sticker slapped on there. I figured for the price they could have taken one more step to engrave it! Oh well~
The effect of displaying Saber on the stand is great! It gives the impression of an artifact of a legendary hero!
Her armaments! Sadly they are all plastic, no metal swords here! The Invisible Air is by far my favorite of these 3!
Avalon, the legendary scabbard with healing power! The detail at the tip and the inscription are a nice touch!
Invisible Air! Despite looking exactly like Excalibur but clear, I think it is so cool! This is actually Excalibur when it is shrouded by a veil of wind!
Excailburs! I'm guessing the glowing version is when Saber uses the "final" type attack??! Also, seeing as how all 3 sword parts are exactly the same shape, all 3 were most likely made from the same mold, with just the various color resins swapped between runs! Efficiency~~~
Various expressions and blowing hair! These can make a pose look much more dynamic!
The ball socket joint used in the wrist when swapping out hand parts! Allows for a wide range of movement, which is useful in sword holding poses!
Releasing Invisible Air!!
The resolve of a knight never wavers!
Unmatched swordmanship!
Unsheathing the legendary Excalibur!
The classic Saber!
King Arthur, do you see the continuation of your dream?
That's it for now, I promise to post more regularly soon! Until next time~~
Saber eating an apple hanging out on my desk :3
