Looking for a job? You should do some brand management first
If you are trying to get into the workforce, you should start by checking your online personal brand first. Our online personal brand is defined by the content we create, the one we share or the one we like. Monitoring our brand is essential, especially when you are a student because our main goal after graduation is to find that dreamed job and we use the internet to find a job as much as an employer when deciding who to hire.
To be successful when managing our personal brand, the first step is Google your name, check all social media and the comments you have done in somebody else’s website and evaluate the answers, think if what you see is congruent with your personal brand. Being aware of the conversation around your brand is the key to take advantage of the positive comments and be able to manage the ones that put it in danger.
A very simple tool for brand monitoring is Klout, which connects the content and interactions of your social network profiles and measure how influential you are, which is your ability to drive action online. The Klout Score is a number between 1-100, the higher the score the more influential you are. The tool also provides suggestions for content you should share and gives you the topics in which you are an online expert.
HootSuite has a free version in which you can link three social profiles, schedule messages, and receive basic reports. It allows you to listen and engage with your network in order to see how your content is being perceived and make changes when they are needed.
