„Sometimes the greatest battles are not fought in grand gestures, but within the quiet moments of resilience and solitude.“
One day you will be leaving the office on a Friday evening and instead of going to your car, you inexplicably steer into the street of his apartment. You spin a tale in your mind where your eyes lock, and he apologizes for the trouble he caused to your heart. You blur the line between intuition and hope, entertaining the thought that perhaps another chance is in the cards. So badly, you will want to ring the bell, to receive answers. But you won’t. You swallow the urge, like bitter medicine. You go back to your car, and drive home. You make a cup of tea, and apply your homemade rosemary oil to your hair as you realize some stories are written with an ending already in place. And within that solitude you feel tonight, you discover the steps toward the rediscovery of yourself.

when she turned 18 years old, she knew exactly who she was and she knew exactly who she wanted to become. A journalist. A designer of a life full of adventures. An admirer of miracles, obsessed with the world, people, nature, art. Highschool finished, 4 years passed by in the fraction of a second. In a few weeks she is turning 23. Sometimes she wonders, where did that 18 year old girl go? She met a man that loves her unconditonally, and she travelled countries, crossed continents, she is studying abroad. Yet, she feels empty. A feeling of lonliness is chasing her every everywhere she goes, paired with deep rooted insecurties. She moved 3 times in less than 2 years, and she noticed the feeling does not go away, no matter how far she goes. Soon after her 18th birthday her father passed away. When he left and took a part of her with him. He was never a good father, but she deeply loved him. He drank too much, he came home late. He shouted at her mom, too often, too loud. But she remembers the sunday afternoons when he cooked for her, her mom and her sister. She remembers, a sunny spring day when he showed her how to make risotto with fresh chanterelles and italian parmesan. She remembers the day, 10 years ago, when he allowed her to keep two kittens she found, eventough he never wanted to have pets. Today, when she drinks a glass of wine, she thinks of him. He loved the art of wine-making, how it pairs with food, how it has the power to create meaningful conversation and moments with friends. Many say, that the death of a close person leaves a wound, but for her his death caused disorientation. She forgot who she is, and who she wants to become.
Turning 23 “ ever since you left”
“I love deep talks. Like, hell yeah, tell me about why you’d prefer to talk to your mom rather than your dad. Tell me about your favourite lyrics in the songs you listen to everyday and why they’re your favourite. Tell me about the dog you had when you were growing up and how he was your best friend. Tell me about what kind of books you like to read when you’re alone in your room. Tell me about the things you think about right before you fall asleep. Tell me anything and everything.”

“I’m stronger because I had to be. I’m smarter because of my mistakes. I’m happier because I’ve overcome the sadness I have known and I’m wiser because I’ve learned from my life.”

“Since I was young, I have always known this: Life damages us, every one. We can’t escape that damage. But now, I am also learning this: We can be mended. We mend each other.”
