This is a story I’ve wanted to post for a while but I never have because it was still happening. Now that it’s a done deal, I’d like to share it with you.
I’m studying Computer Science and this story is set in my second year. I took on 12 courses, which are a bit too many in Spain’s universities, and things started to turn very, very dark. I was stressed, I couldn’t meet some deadlines - the workload was huge.
Fast forward into January that academic year, I was at an interview with my teacher defending my project for his subject, and he told me that I had failed. I told him I didn’t understand part of the material. His answer was, and I quote, “if you tell me that you don’t understand this part of the subject, you’re also telling me you’re too stupid for this degree”. My final grade was a 3 out of 10.
The next year, I took on 7 courses, one of them being the one I just mentioned. I obviously did my best to get a different teacher, who turned out to be the best teacher I have ever had. I studied and studied and studied. I never stopped studying, especially this particular subject, until I was the one teaching it to my classmates. I did more exercises than anyone else by far, I studied since the very beginning of the year. I was stressed but motivated, I had to prove my worth.
My final grade was 10.12/10. It is the subject that I have most loved throughout my entire academic career.
