The frontman of a right wing, nationalist Christian group is raising funds from across the UK, Europe and the United States to buy equipment for Scottish "night patrols" accused of targeting migrants. Britain First co-founder Jim Dowson, who is originally from Airdrie but now based in Northern Ireland, fronts Knights Templar International (KTI), a militant Christian nationalist organisation, which promotes itself by evoking the 10th century crusades. He was dubbed “the invisible man of Britain's far right” by the BBC, who ran an investigation into his activities in 2018. Dowson posted videos revealing his financial support for the Glasgow groups to followers of KTI’s TikTok account this weekend, prior to the start of what organisers Unite the Clans claimed was Scotland’s “largest anti-migrant rally” in Glasgow. Organisations KTI is funding include “night patrol” group Scots Active, providing them with stab vests, cameras and high visibility security jackets. The Ferret, which is co-publishing this story with the Detail, previously reported on this and other groups, who have been accused of having links to the far right and targeting migrants.

as i said in the tags i'm not as gung-ho abolitionist as i used to be, mostly because every abolitionist i read ended up describing something like defunding and changing ('reforming,' even) the system. feel free to suggest more readings; maybe it was a failure of my limited reads.

personal shifts aside, i still don't think there's an ethical way to police people under capitalism. and still, acab. and concerns about 'mob rule' end up just being 'educate the mob more.' and MOST GERMANE TO THIS POST, if i were a politician asked to explain my 'got too epic online' bacon fryin posts, i'd stand behind my words. the mealy-mouthed non-answers don't do anything. they don't convince your fox news uncle, and your dsa niece just thinks you're an insincere careerist who will ditch her crusade to speak to the concerns of the working class whenever it's convenient.

if i ran for office and they found my online activities, i'd stand behind my words if i still believed in them. and if i didn't, i'd be like "i had good reasons to think that [specify good reasons]. i changed my mind for these reasons [specify clear reasons]. you are doing a bad job trying to trip me up. i suggest a career making macrame potholders."
