Jem The Movie are looking for costume designers, creative directors and brands to work with on the movie production - I think Mermaid Killer is probably the only REAL choice here. What can I say.
Jem is all about pastel haired punk babes - Mermaid Killer is all about pastel haired punk babes.
We are actually a perfect fit, and would love for you to head over and TELL THEM to work with us!!!
Could you imagine? Little Australian brand owned by one girl, moves to LA and then a few months later she ends up working on Jem The Movie.
Can anyone say, ‘dreams come true’?
The lineup.
I'm not meant to feel like this. This is how I felt when I was 16-20. Lost, alone, betrayed. There must be another feeling. Joy. Happiness. Anything. Just a break from sadness. I want sadness to be a sometimes thing. Like when someone dies or some other sad times that you can get over. Not to live my life in sadness. I want to wake up in the morning with a spring in my step and do things I love, surrounded with people who I love and who I love In return. I don't want to be sad anymore. I don't want to sit in darkness. I don't want to feel petrified because I don't know what's around the corner. I just want to be happy.

I just read that post you did with helpful tips about your fashion career thus far. And I was just wondering how you got your internship. Was it an advertised position?
Every internship I've had has been advertised on pedestrian. With dolly though it was a bit different, I applied got told they already had someone and that they would keep my details. Three months later (the average length of internships) I contacted them again basically being like "don't forget about me"I've noticed with internships you basically have to write a new cover letter for each one and basically show how passionate you are. You also need to start applying for then ASAP because some places will take ages to get back to you.
A lovely anon messaged me earlier asking how you go about getting into the Fashion Industry, so I thought I’d make a post on it. The six things listed have been a big help for me, each person is different though and im sure if I really thought about it I could go on for days.
Do your research: Learn as much as you can about the industry. I read a tonne of books on models, editors, Pr reps before i even began my studies. Its good inspiration and also helps in interviews. Study: Get qualified, there a tonnes of courses out there that can help in the Fashion Industry depending on what you want to do. I have a certificate in Freelance Journalism and I’m currently studying both a Diploma of Fashion Design and a Diploma of Fashion Business and Merchandising (I’m seriously a sucker for education; In my room I have a sign that says ‘You can never be to over-dressed or over-educated”) Intern: Interning is what will separate you apart from other people when it comes to getting a job. It will be long hours, you won’t get paid and it will probably be super monotonous but you get to meet new people, you will get a killer reference when you leave ( if you have worked hard that is)You also will learn a lot being out in the field. Never give up: You will get told no a lot, actually that’s a lie.. you probably won’t even get a no, you will apply for things and no one will actually respond to you. Keep trying. I have applied for so many internships and have never received a response, I now intern for Dolly Mag. You only need one yes in a sea full of no’s for something great to happen. Network: The best opportunities come from networking; I may have another internship lined up just because I met an editor of a magazine in a pub. Be friendly, approachable, talk to people, get contact details, be professional and stay in touch. Be passionate: love what you do, be willing to go the extra mile, never stop learning about the industry, trawl the blogs daily and enjoy every moment of it. *Disclaimer* The Fashion Industry is really, really tough and I honestly urge everyone who “wants to be in it” to really think about whether it is something you 100% want to do. Reality Tv Shows give you a warped sense of reality when it comes to Fashion.. If the fashion industry was like ‘The Hills’ it would be constant fashion shows, fancy parties and killer threads lent to you from the designer himself; and that’s just if you’re an intern (Sign Me UP!) In the real world unfortunately it goes a little bit more like this.. Hanging clothes, labelling clothes, hanging more clothes, running errands and maybe if you’re really lucky you will get to help on a project whether it be blogging or design, like I said only if you’re really lucky. If anyone wants to know more just send my a message :)
how did you go about getting into the fashion industry? You have done so many amazing things and I am quite stuck on where to go.
A lot of hard work, applying for every opportunity and basically being prepared to do it all for nothing. I'll post an actual post on it in a second.
