Remembering Aberfan.
Terry was one of the most inspiring people I have had the pleasure to photograph. He worked for over 20 years in the Merthyr coal mines and suffered with 'Black lung' disease as a result of the atrocious working conditions, he witnessed a spitfire crash into his neighbors home on a routine exercise and watched his beloved wife succumbed to cancer. He was also part of a rescue team that was first on to the scene at the school in Aberfan when a catastrophic collapse of a colliery spoil tip killed 116 people (Mostly children). This shot was the last I took of him that day as he began to well up whilst telling me about the events that day. A true hero and a true gentleman. #Aberfan
Getting pretty nostalgic looking through old photos today. This was a piece I shot in my first year at Uni about my niece and nephew who both have varying degrees of autism. They have come a long way since then.
I recently photographed a feature for The Telegraph Magazine about the devastation of Japanese knotweed. Extended edit here http://markgriffithsphotography.com/Assignment
Trashed images.
I was looking at the website of Melanie Eclare a few months ago and was in awe at the beauty of her work and her talent as an artist/photographer. So it was even more of a delight for me to be named in the final 30 of the fotofilmic awards alongside her. Sadly, this talented lady has been diagnosed with an aggressive for of leukemia and needs the our support in order to fund treatment. Please donate today http://fotofilmic.com/melanie-eclare-recovery-campaign/
I have been meeting some wonderfully interesting characters whilst photographing my most recent project ‘Notes from the old country’, This is a ‘Close but no cigar’ shot.
