Empowering Midwives: A Documentary Photography Journey with Rotary International’s Papua New Guinea Midwifery Leadership Buddy Project

I’m thrilled to have collaborated with Rotary International and the Australian College of Midwives on the Papua New Guinea Midwifery Leadership Buddy Project. This inspiring initiative empowers midwives from Australia and Papua New Guinea to enhance maternal and neonatal outcomes, transforming lives through leadership training and shared expertise.

The Power of Midwives in Maternal Health

Midwives are the backbone of maternal care, capable of delivering up to 90% of essential sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, and adolescent health services. Through the Papua New Guinea Midwifery Leadership Buddy Project, midwives from Australia and Papua New Guinea come together to share knowledge, build skills, and strengthen healthcare systems. This collaboration, supported by Rotary International and the Australian College of Midwives, is reducing preventable maternal and neonatal deaths while fostering a brighter future for communities.

My photographs tell the stories of these remarkable midwives—their passion, resilience, and commitment to protecting mothers and their babies.

Celebrating Generations of Doctors: A Century of Support with MDA National

For over 100 years, MDA National has been a steadfast partner to doctors across Australia, evolving alongside medical practice while remaining dedicated to supporting healthcare professionals and promoting excellence in patient care. As a Brisbane-based photographer specializing in commercial, advertising, industrial and healthcare photography, I had the privilege of capturing the inspiring stories of multi-generational doctor families making a profound impact in Western Australia and Queensland.

This project was more than a photoshoot—it was a celebration of legacy, dedication, and the shared commitment to improving lives through medicine. From established physicians to emerging medical professionals, these families embody the heart of healthcare, bridging tradition and innovation across generations.

Over the past few months I've been working with Hort Innovation on a brand photography shoot.

Hort Innovation is a national, grower-owned organisation, that serves 37 different horticulture commodities across fruit, vegetable, nuts, nursery and turf. They partner with researchers to deliver a host of research and development that takes place on sites in various locations across Australia.

Photography was shot in Victoria, South Australia and Queensland.

We loved the Peach Farm @hipcamp in New South Wales so much we went twice! The kids were entertained by the animals and on the trampoline for hours. Not far from Yamba, and just over a 3 hour drive from Brisbane.

@Thisisqueensland! Our VW Camper was delivered in March 2023 and we've been getting out a lot lately for weekends and long weekends in and around South-East Queensland. This @hipcamp site (Ngalar Mirunganah Nature Reserve) is located in the Scenic Rim about 2 hours west of Brisbane. The watering hole was fresh, but clean and beautiful. We were lucky enough to have the area to ourselves for three days (off grid with no phone reception). Host David provided an Ecology tour, sharing information about the incredible transformation of the land since farming ceased on the property about 30 years ago.

I had the pleasure of photographing these three doctors (in Melbourne and Sydney) in action, for MDA National. Observing these doctors across multiple surgeries was an amazing experience - and what struck me was their focus and precision, always maintaining a sense of calm, and sometimes with Russian Classical music playing in the background.

I’m a Dad of a vibrant, strong and hilarious 3-year old girl. My wife and I share caring responsibilities and I am grateful for this opportunity to bond with my daughter. I hope there is never a day where she is told she can’t do something because she was born a girl. The cycle of bias starts early and it’s up to every one of us to challenge it.

I’ve just returned from a family getaway at the Whitsunday Islands, Queensland. It is a super stunning part of the world and was a great place for me to enjoy some R&R with my family and to try out my new drone . 

One of the things that absolutely fascinated me on this trip was the number of resorts in the area which are closed for business, many since well before Cyclone Debbie hit in 2017. We hiked into Happy Bay on Long Island, sailed past South Mole and Lindeman Islands. I did a little research and found an interesting article on ABC. 

We were lucky enough to enjoy the Great Barrier Reef from Long Island and the rest sailing between Airlie Beach and Shaw Island. It will be great to see some more of the resorts opening again soon!

I was recently commissioned to photograph Summer Land Camel Farm for Aspire Magazine, Hong Kong Airlines’ in-flight publication. The farm is located on an 850-acre property in the scenic rim of Queensland, Australia and is a 45-minute drive from Brisbane. Wonderful Machine have featured a blog post on my personal project to West Kalimantan. I wanted to photograph the Iban Dayak People because I find it absolutely amazing these traditional cultures still survive in these remote areas. I am quite a nostalgic person and I love tradition. I wanted to find out more about the culture and capture a documentary series, including portraits, to share it with people who don't have the opportunity to visit themselves.
