This is a sculpture of Charleston’s renowned blacksmith, Philip Simmons, who specialized in decorative iron gates standing sentinel to many of the city’s lavish gardens and homes. The sculpture is done in the style of terracotta figures from Nigeria’s Nok culture, which thrived from 1000 BCE to 300 CE. The juxtaposition of art and history is an integral part of our collective past and fascinates me as an artist. Where art, history and science intersect remains a recurring theme throughout my work.

Pot Head is right at home with a head full of your favorite flowers or succulents. Unusual and utilitarian, this piece is a classic example of the inner workings of the artist’s mind. Commission your own pot head, and let your home’s whimsy run wild! Medium: Clay. Contact the artist: [email protected]
