If/when more repeatable damage prevention(a la Samite Healer)?
If. R&D has soured on it. It greatly complicates combat math and slows down gameplay.
This set has the first mono blue creatures with Reach. Is this a new thing that the colour pie supports or were breaks allowed for flavour reasons?
Blue is number one in flying, so we allowed it reach for this reason. Blue being able to block fliers is not undermining a weakness.
With Jeff and Gwenpool now showing up not only on cards, but also in flavour text, can I get a "maybe" on them getting their own cards, soon?
Maybe. : )
"Blue is tertiary in trample. It’s allowed it on rare occasion."
As in only for rares? 🤔
Joke aside, as someone who was around during Leviathan/Polar Kraken, which I also appreciated in the recent DTW by the way, seems like definitely few and far between. Looks like a quick search was caverns of ixalan (commander only for The indomitable) , kraken tokens from blue siege; and back to New Capena for a creature proper. :)
I’m glad you enjoyed the podcast.
I’m surprised by your answer about magic going down to 4 colors instead of up to 6 (if they weren’t allowed to do 5 for some reason), could you elaborate on why?
It would be easier to adjust down to four than up to six. Four requires adding abilities to colors. Six requires subtracting them. Adding effects is easier than subtracting.
In the hypothetical world where Magic goes down to four colours or else we get assigned everything banana by aliens, which colour would we lose?
Alternatively, if we went up to six instead, what would we gain?
Probably green.
Probably purple.
You've mentioned the time needed to make a set start to finish in the past, but I don't think art schedule has been mentioned. How long before the changes are impossible point (which you've said is ~9 months before release) do art orders start going out?
Art stats happening mid-set design.
Thank you to all and please give high fives where appropriate, Cap is my favorite hero and reading through the decklist released today made me smile so much:)
High fives to be applied. Happy to hear fans of Marvel are happy with the designs.
When Spider Man came out you said a card was created then moved to Super Heros tobmake room for Ezekiel Sims, Spider-Totem. I was curious if enough of the cards have been previewed for you to tell us what card that was now?
It hasn’t appeared yet. I’ll tell you when it does.
Just got my mood swings decks and I'm excited to play with my friends tomorrow. I just have one request. Can the packaging be adjusted in future runs to fit sleeved cards? I really like the box but the sleeves I use dont fit
I can pass along the note.
Another Mood Swings video, this time by Two Players One Pod.
A pandimensional lifeform shows up on Earth and says,
"We like the Magic the Gathering game, but the number five us a declaration of war on us." (don't ask why).
Magic must go down to four colors or up to six colors. If not, they will not only blow up the moon, but making all foods taste like bananas.
They know colorless isn't a color so it doesn't count.
Which way does magic go? 4 or 6.
Probably 4.
Hey Mark, isn't the newly revealed Professor Hulk just a straight up color pie break?
No, blue is allowed to draw cards. : )
Blue is tertiary in trample. It’s allowed it on rare occasion.
Just wanted to say that I was so excited to see the Great Lakes Avengers make it into the Jumpstart set. As a proud person of Milwaukee, thank you for including them!
You’re welcome.
I remember when OTJ was being previewed and one of the biggest criticisms was that it had to many jokes and silly puns, and if i recall correctly that criticism was at least aknowledged by R&D, so i dont really understand how R&D thinks this criticism shouldn't apply to universes beyond sets, there is an overabundance of jokes and silliness in UB sets that i'm not fond of
An overabundance? Do others feel that?
How come there are some characters in the Marvel set who got six or seven separate cards? I get that the avengers are popular, but isn’t this supposed to be a set about a wider variety of marvel super heroes than just the avengers? Not that there isn’t variety in the set at all, of course, I’m just confused as to why there’s seven Iron Men and six Black Widows
The main set had no more than two copies of any character. We allowed other products to make cards for the characters as they needed. With Commander, Jumpstart, and Welcome decks, that adds up to a bunch of cards for the most favorite characters.
