middle  castillo  child.  one  of  nine.  the  castillo’s  live  at  the  hawkins  trailer  park.

the  castillo’s  are  a  very  free  love  family.  her  parents  never  moved  past  their  60s  hippie  faze.  with  so  many  kids  their  parents  take  long  shifts  ( her  dad  working  at  the  plant  and  her  mother  a  nurse  at  hawkins  general )  to  provide  for  the  family.  this  leaves  the  older  kids  to  do  much  of  the  raising  of  the  younger  siblings.

marley  is  known  for  being  a  pothead,  more  often  high  than  sober.  she  started  smoking  at  twelve  years  old.  she’s  been  picked  up  for  possession  several  times  by  hawkins  pd  though  no  charges  have  ever  been  placed.

struggles  at  school  as  she  has  undiagnosed  dyslexia.  so  even  though  she  is  bright,  marley  struggles  in  class  and  has  been  written  off  by  most  of  her  teachers  as  being  a  slacker.

at  fourteen  she  was  caught  hooking  up  with  another  girl,  she  never  denied  it  even  though  the  other  girl  did.  one  of  the  only  openly  gay  people  in  town.

she  and  her  brother  august  assisted  in  the  group  search  of  the  woods  for  will  byers  when  he  went  missing.  when  her  brother  tripped  down  an  embankment  he  cut  his  leg  open,  drawing  the  demogorgan  to  them.

when  august  was  dragged  away  by  the  demogorgan  marley  attempted  to  hold  on  to  him.  she  was  forced  to  let  go  when  august  was  dragged  through  a  gate  to  the  upside  down  ( the  same  one  later  found  by  nancy  and  jonathan ),  or  else  she  would  have  been  pulled  in  with  him.

RANDOM  MARLEY  HEADCANON  DROP !

1.  if  marley  were  ever  to  take  an  interest  in  playing  an  instrument  it  would  be  the  drums.  she’d  last  maybe  one  lesson  before  she  gets  bored  and  just  starts  making  up  her  own  beats/rhythms  and  the  person  teaching  her  gives  up  getting  her  to  pay  attention.

2.  hellfire  club.  she  would  totally  join,  but  would  be  an  infuriating  player  for  anyone  who  adheres  completely  to  the  phb  as  law.  marley  would  be  all  about  the  homebrew.  would  wanna  play  an  aarakocra  or  tabaxi  before  it  was  even  a  thing.  class  wise  i  think  she’d  either  go  rogue  or  a  cleric  devoted  to  some  sort  of  trickster  god.

3.  weirdly  her  best  subject  in  school  is  math.  not  when  she  actually  has  to  write  out  her  work,  but  if  she’s  asked  a  math  problem  she  can  usually  solve  it  in  her  head.  it’s  usually  the  reading/writing  of  the  equations  that  trip  her  up.

it’s  the  first  time  they’ve  seen  each  other  since  the  hospital.  kept  confined  to  her  home  by  anxious  family  members  worrying  over  her.  sweet  as  the  sentiment  is,  it’s  also  suffocating.  so  she’d  taken  off  before  they  could  offer  any  objections,  shouting  on  her  way  out  that  she  was  going  to  visit  a  friend.

which  was  how  she  found  herself  at  the  byers  home,  with  her  new  most  unlikely  friend.  at  least  here  there  would  be  no  need  to  keep  secret  what  she,  or  rather  they,  had  been  through.  nondisclosure  agreements  were  a  bitch  when  you  couldn’t  tell  the  people  you  loved  the  reason  you  flinched  at  sudden  noises  and  now  had  to  sleep  with  the  light  on  to  feel  safe.  or  what  had  happened  to  the  brother  now  ‘officially’  listed  as  a  missing  person.  plus  marley  was  worried  about  the  little  dude.  she  sure  as  hell  was  struggling  to  rectify  what  had  happened  in  her  mind,  wasn’t  hard  to  imagine  that  @clericlost​​  was  too.

but  what  a  strange  sight  it  must  have  been,  the  teen  standing  in  the  middle  schoolers  room,  taking  in  the  drawings  scattered  around.  ❝  you  drew  these?  my  guy  these  are  badass!  ❞  not  an  exaggeration,  marley  truely  was  impressed.  alas  artistic  talent  had  never  been  a  skill  that  had  been  meant  for  her.  will  it  seemed  had  it  in  spades.  ❝  they’re  from  that  game  your  friends  and  you  play  right?  demons  and  dragons?  ❞  ouch.  so  close  and  yet  so  far.

hear  me  out,  marley  going  into  the  upside  down  either  the  day  after  her  brother  is  taken  by  the  demogorgan  or  the  day  after  that.  and  then  getting  trapped  until  hopper  and  joyce  come  to  save  will.

she  ties  a  long  rope  around  her  waist  and  attaches  that  to  a  tree  on  the  normal  side  of  the  gate  so  she  can  find  her  way  back.  after  she  goes  through  she  investigates  around  the  upside  down  for  a  while  until  the  rope  goes  slack.  when  she  pulls  on  it  she  realizes  that  the  rope  has  been  severed.  the  gate  she  came  through  had  healed  and  closed  up.  she’s  stuck  there  until  she  can  either  find  a  new  gate  or  someone  comes  to  rescue  her  ( which  is  unlikely  as  if  she  was  to  be  reported  missing,  people  would  be  more  likely  to  believe  she  just  ran  away. ). 

while  in  the  upside  down  she  discovers  the  bodies  of  barb  and  her  brother,  august.  fifty-fifty  on  if  i’ll  have  it  she  runs  into  will  while  they’re  trapped  there.  when  she  is  eventually  saved  she’s  barely  able  to  breath  or  move,  the  conditions  of  the  upside  down  getting  to  her.  even  when  she  gets  home  she  has  to  spend  a  few  days  in  the  hospital  recovering.

she  can’t  tell  anyone  about  her  brothers  fate  because  of  the  nda  she  signed  with  hawkins  lab.  marley  has  to  even  keep  it  secret  from  her  family  which  causes  her  no  end  of  stress  and  increases  her  reliance  on  weed  to  cope  with  the  day  to  day.
