Alex the Great wasn’t afraid. Fear was the tool of the parasite. Without intellect, creativity, and productivity, it was all they had. What he was feeling was desperation. A dreadful, ever-present craving for company, which permeated every fibre of his being. If Delta walked out that door, he was going to be all alone again. Alone with his thoughts and the bodies that littered the floor. The thought made him sick to his stomach.

Whimpering, Alex pressed his hands against the glass. He didn’t care that he was bleeding or that he still hadn’t eaten the last of the plants. All he wanted was for the Protector to come back. After everything that happened, was that really so much to ask?
