Blessing others
I LOVE to bless other people. There are people who like to be in front of the crowd, making the speech, singing the song, acting... etc. Then there are those who would rather be in the background helping the previously mentioned people to do their thing. Helping them to succeed and be the best they can be. Now some can be comfortable in both worlds. I have been in front of 200 people teaching, and was told I did a very good job, and I really did enjoy myself, but I think my strength lies in helping others, being in the background, being a blessing, because I really want others to be the best they can be. While I am doing that, however, I am also being the best I can be. I’m walking out a gift God gave me. I LOVE to see others smile from pure joy, because they are doing something they love!! If I can help them do that, it brings me great joy!!!! So to quote a favorite movie of mine; “It’s a win, win!” (’Letters to Juliet’).
There are times when people don’t understand you’re trying to bless them, or maybe the timing of it is off, and it seems intrusive. When our heart is in the right place, people are more understanding. Even if people get mad at you for trying to be a blessing, keep doing it. Keep putting others first. Philippians 2:3-4 (NLV) “3) Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4) Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. Be understanding, and apologize if necessary for being intrusive, or whatever. BUT, never, ever stop trying to be a blessing, and helping others to be the best they can be!!! It blesses them, AND it blesses us! AMEN!
Running The Church Like A Business?!
My husband and I served as pastors for about 35 years. For the most part, we loved every minute of it! Of course, there were times that were difficult, but we depended on God through those times, and tried to be Christ like in how we handled them. We made mistakes, said I’m sorry, and please forgive me. We always tried to let people know we were not perfect. We had no greater ability to seek Jesus than anyone else... We tried to lead the way we would want to be led. We tried to love those put in our care the way God would want us to. Ministry happens 24/7, therefore it’s tiring at times. Being gracious and loving is still right, even when you’re tired! We learned A LOT in 35 years. We decided to retire after 35 years, but God has still used us to minister, though it has changed somewhat...
In all those years, when we went to a church in a supporting pastors role, I never understood when they would say they ran the church just like a business... I’m not even sure that is possible, so it makes sense to me that churches all over the country are having a hard time. When church leadership says they want the church to “run like a business”, my mind says; “It’s not a business, though, so how do you do that?” In fact if the church is the people, not the building, or programs, or anything else that doesn’t have to do with the people, it’s impossible. The church is a living, breathing, organism, the bride of Christ. If you’re trying to make a business out of that, it’s going to be extremely difficult, or turn out in a way that maybe is not truly honoring what God has in mind for His people, (the church).
The idea of ministry is to go beyond buildings, to where people are, to reach them in their circumstances, to meet their physical needs, to love them the way Jesus loves them. Where does business fit into that? I’m not naive by any means, I know there are offices at churches, and support staff that need to be there, and some type of order needs to happen. All the positions are important, and need structure, but when that structure becomes more important than the individuals, we need to take a second look into it. The majority of what pastors do should be happening outside that buildings walls. As leaders, especially in Senior Pastor roles, we should be making sure the other pastors are being ministered to, built up, supported in every way possible, and loved on A LOT! I know pastors, and their families, sacrifice quite a bit. It’s so rewarding, and the pros far out weigh the cons! So much support and love is needed! Ministry that happens inside the building should definitely focus on the pastors as much as anyone. We need those leaders to be focused, and free to be who they are in Jesus, trained in The Lord. They will be shining Jesus much brighter that way, outside of the walls, to a world in desperate need!
I don’t think the church can be run like a business, and I’m still not sure why we try and do that. Remember when people tried to bring business into the tabernacle? Jesus threw them out! He didn’t want the money changers in the place of worship. There’s so much to learn from His example!
If ministry only happens inside the walls of a building, we are definitely doing something wrong. AND if we are trying to run any ministry like a business, instead of the organic organism it is, perhaps we should pray more, seek God, and think outside the box, (or walls!).
Lots to think about...

Mary Ann
As I sit in my favorite room in the house, (my living room), and watch it snow, and drink my coffee, I’m very thankful. We don’t have as much snow as when this picture was taken a couple of weeks ago. It’s snowing, but just not a lot. My daughter would call it; “cute snow.” I love to watch it snow. I know people who have snow every winter, for long periods of time, might get really tired of it. I never do. We have winters where we don’t see any snow. I guess that’s only happened a couple of times since we’ve been here. I miss the snow, while it’s winter, if we don’t get any. I have always been very much about the seasons. Meaning that if it’s winter, it’s supposed to be cold and snowy. If it’s spring, the days are supposed to be getting warmer. If it’s Fall, I love the nights getting colder, and the leaves changing. Of course summer is supposed to be hot, with just warm, (not hot), evenings! I love that we get a variety of seasons! I’m reminded that if I’m tired of too much snow, spring is coming. God is so good to give us seasons in our lives as well. My husband reminds me that the way things are today, is not how they will be, say in two weeks. Our lives, circumstances, seasons, are always changing. Hopefully for the better! Hopefully we are constantly growing, learning, loving, more each day. Enjoying every season that God gives us. Not only does He love us, He also created this beautiful world we live in, and the seasons, and their particular weather pattern, that we enjoy. Just thoughts today... Have a great Wednesday!

Mary Ann
February is all about love. I remember growing up, I really liked the month of February because of Valentines Day and the holidays from school because of Presidential birthdays. Oh and I also celebrate my birthday this month too!
Love is such a gift. Not only from God, but one that we give to each other. Every single person in the picture above, I love deeply. They’re my family, but they also are wonderful individuals, filled with goodness, integrity, sense of humor, and big hearts! I am blessed beyond measure to call these people my family, and to be allowed to love them!
I remember someone saying sometime, almost complaining, that they hate Valentines Day. They’re not in a romantic relationship so why celebrate this “love” holiday? Well, my answer is simple. If you’re not in a romantic relationship at this time, that doesn’t mean you don’t have love in your life. I’m positive that much love has brought you this far in your life. Parents love, Grandparents love, a friends love, and especially God’s love. Celebrate the love that you know has been there all along. I celebrate love all the time, I think, because my heart is so full, i choose to give it away! That’s love! God’s love is so great for us that He gave His Son, Jesus. He loves us so much, that from the beginning of time, He wanted us, desired us, knew us, and gave us life. He loves us deeply, and in doing so, He is mindful of all we are, all we’re facing, all the decisions we have to make, all of our circumstances. I always am thankful that God knows me, and sees everything about me, and He stills loves me! So while some see this month as the ‘Romantic holiday’ month, maybe we should just think about it as a chance to celebrate ALL the love in our lives!! Especially the Love that will NEVER fail, Jesus!!!
Blessings,
Mary Ann
Inspiration
I’m a mom and a nana, and I love it. My kids inspire me in more ways than I can express. I just read a blog from one of my daughters, and it inspired me to consider writing again. I love to write. However, I can convince myself so fast, that I don’t have anything to say, so why write. Typical tactic of the enemy of my soul, the devil. He is sneaky, and seeks to destroy. If allowed, he will strip us of life, love, and everything precious. That’s what he does. Today I’ve decided to not let him. My daughter inspired me, and I was reminded that Jesus speaks life into me, and I need to share that! So if all I do is get on here, and fill the pages with life, because of the life that Jesus gives me, then that’s great!! So here goes!!!

Beautiful morning!
Intimate Relationship with God
Psalm 30:2 (NKJV)
Oh Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me.
When we are living in an intimate relationship with God, one so close that our very breath is filled with His Name, His Praise; When we are functioning in a place where we keep God on the throne of our lives, and we live only to please Him in everything - That is glory, paradise. To know that He hears every heart-cry and is already touching our point of need. We rest in the assurance that we are healed.
Blessings,
Mary Ann
His Peace
John 14:27 (NKJV)
27) Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
His peace. There's a difference between His peace, and what the world believes peace is. It's not void of conflict. His peace is deep within. It's something embedded in our soul, so no matter the conflict around us, we can draw on Him. Knowing and trusting He is always with us. Trusting He is able to take care of all troubles/conflicts, and whatever the outcome, He will never leave us. There is no greater peace than what Jesus brings. Holding onto that today. May you feel His peace deep within!
Blessings,
Mary Ann
A Hedge of Protection
What is a "hedge of protection'? I have heard it said, and used this term so many times, and I just love the symbolism of this. Think about a hedge for just a moment. When we lived in Washington, we had a hedge in front of our house. It was a pain to maintain, because it was tremendously thick! So thick in fact, birds lived, and nested in there. They were not afraid of being found, because you truly couldn't see in it. The branches were intertwined, and it was dense with leaves, so many, you could barely see through it, and our grandson could not break through it and get into the street. Therefore, it became a "hedge of protection" for the birds, and our grandson. It was a border. He was safe on the inside of this border.
You know Christians are often looked down on because people say we have too many rules. The truth is, we have borders, boundaries, "hedges of protection." It's also true, that everyone has these, not just Christians. Now some Christians have focused on, and talked about these rules, boundaries, hedges, and barked at people when they haven't listened or stayed inside the borders, much of the time without a single drop of love, and understanding. They have also been accusatory towards the people not inside the hedge. Instead of what Jesus would do, which is love on, be an example towards, and help those outside of the hedge. Try to show them the protection and peace they would find inside of the hedge.
I believe people really want protection, boundaries, to feel safe. Like I said above, we all live with "hedges", or boundaries. We have homes, the walls are the boundaries, or hedges to keep the elements outside, and us safely inside. We teach our children not to leave the boundaries of their yard, especially when they are little, so they are safe. There are rules we learn while learning to drive, to keep us safe on the roads, which also have boundaries. In our world, nations are divided by boundaries, borders, for our protection. So while there might be people who say they don't want rules, boundaries, "hedges", they don't really mean that. They might think they do, but it's not reality. We have an innate need to feel safe, secure, protected. We all need boundaries, hedges.
I LOVE that Jesus is the Creator of our "hedge of protection". He sees and knows everything. This is truth, and because He does, He wants to set up those boundaries to keep us inside those hedges so we don't wander into something that isn't safe. Even the enemy knows about this "hedge", as he references it in Job 1:10. He knows that people inside of it are safe with The Lord. It's not about the hedge itself, it's about knowing The One Who knows what's best for us, and keeping us safe and protected, where we will feel love and peace. We just need to trust this, trust Him.
It always comes down to what we are going to do with Him. Knowing He loves me, and wants to ALWAYS protect me, helps me want to stay safe within the boundaries/hedges He's given. Now doesn't that seem simple? It really is, it's about His love for us, not what I want to do in my selfish ambition, thinking I know more than God. All those rules that people think we are strangled with, help us to live safely within His Arms, what better place to be! You can read more about the great lengths that God goes to for us to know He surrounds us, to protect, and help us find refuge and peace, in Psalm 91.
Because I LOVE the symbolism, I love this phrase. God has wisdom beyond what I can imagine, and also more love than I know what to do with. SO I will trust Him, offer my life to Him, and allow Him to give me boundaries/hedges. AMEN!
Blessings,
Mary Ann
Thoughts for today, Jan. 14, 2013
Today is a new beginning. Yes, it also happens to be Monday! For all those who begin your work week with Monday, I know how hard it is to let go of the weekend… However, every morning we wake is a gift. Another chance to love, to share, to play, to laugh, to be thankful(even for Mondays!). ;-) Another chance to make a difference in someones life… It’s a matter of choice, and attitude. “Father God, Thank You for another day, a new beginning. Thank You for each breath. Thank You that though our circumstances change, You NEVER do! Thank You for being mindful of me and my family, and ALL Your children. Thank You for wanting to spend time with me… Sometimes I don’t understand how You, Holy God, love me, and desire me, yet I know You do, and I’m thankful. Thank You for Your promise of providing ALL of our needs. I trust You! Let me look more like you, to have Your eyes, and to draw close to You, and try and love like You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.” Happy Monday!
Blessings,
Mary Ann

Looks like Christmas!
We welcome Christ into our lives
There is a stranger in us - a naked, needy, hungry portion of ourselves - unwanted and neglected whom we must embrace. In this way, we welcome Christ into our lives, for he is the Unwanted One, “the least of the brethren” within us, the Samaritan. By embracing what is unwanted in us we embrace Him and in this way we become whole. We reach out, but it is the Despised One in use who actually saves. (Isaiah 53:3)
- Fr. Antony
…There is only one God of my heart, my Lord and my God, and He is everything to me, as He is also everything to the whole world, visible and invisible, which was created by Him from nothing. Therefore, I ought not to cling to anything but to my God; I ought to part from everything that I have...
