Some of you know that I soundtrack the podcast Within the Wires, which is a part of the Welcome to Night Vale universe.
Season three's music brief was a challenge for me (I'm always challenged by WTW briefs, and I like it) because Jeffrey wanted Jazz. There are some things I can self-produce and play, but authentic set-in-a-particular-time-in-the-wtw-alternate-timeline jazz is not one of them, so I called for reinforcements.
Luckily my friend Mike Gorman IS jazz, and he took a theme of mine from season one, arranged it into four variations, and then assembled a quartet of Leo Richardson (sax), Tristan Mailliot (drums), and Adam King (bass), to bring it all to life.
I asked Will Twynham to produce, as I wanted it to sound and feel as close to the real thing as possible, and for it to be recorded in an authentic way with plenty of fire and grit, which it was, at Kingston University's Visconti Studio, with Laura Morrod engineering.
So, please enjoy what we've made, it was my first time commissioning anything, and I'm extremely happy with the results, which you can hear all the way through episode six!
