Nicole felt immediately good as soon as the man started laughing. It didn’t sound forced or out of compromise, but actually sincere. There was a warm feeling that spread through her chest and her stomach that came when she did something right, like lifting someone’s mood for example, no matter the situation. “Alright, then I’m not sorry at all. If anything, I’m sure you can presume of the weight loss,” Nicole shrugged and looked up at the man, leaning over her. “I’m sorry,” she said, feeling even more awkward than before. “I never know what to say or when to say it. It’s actually a problem,” she said, and she would’ve run away if she could have; or at least covered her face with her hand if it hadn’t been for the fact that she was using both to keep her and him standing. “How long have you been back?” The girl asked, clearly more interested, as if it could compensate for the bad jokes she’d cracked a few seconds before.
I’m sure you can presume the weight loss. Mason looked at her and raised both of his eyebrows, the grin on his lips impossible to wipe off. “That’s-- That’s definitely a way to look at it,” he spoke and shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand softly. “Hey, like I said, don’t sweat it. It’s nice to, you know, for once not have people walk around on tip-toes all the time.” He swallowed and sighed, looking at his hands quickly. He hated that. When people looked at him and felt sorry for him. It had been his choice, after-all. Clearing his throat, he looked up at Nicole and smiled gently, “When I got back from Iraq, you mean?”
“Just let me know which car it is.” He smiled in response, leading him slowly along. “So what happened?”
“With my leg, you mean? Iraq. My last trip there, I--- I got shot. They couldn’t save it.” He swallowed and nodded as he looked down at the useless prosthetic leg he had gotten from the hospital. It was simply put on him for show, but there was absolutely no use of it.

He guided them to the door easily. “ I forget that kids were mean when I was in school, but I think that they’re a lot more harsh now. With their computer screens and texting. You’d think that they wouldn’t steal a man’s crutches.”
“Yeah, definitely. Seems like it. I remember when I was in school, it wasn’t as bad then as it clearly is now. I feel sorry for kids nowadays. Back in the day, at least we knew what and who we were dealing with. Now, they have absolutely no idea, do they?” He shook his head and then when he said he hadn’t thought they’d steal a man’s crutches, he swallowed and shook his head once more, “Kids are bored, I guess. I don’t know.”
bradyfey:
“ Nah man, it’s cool. I got you.”
“Awesome. Thank you, man. That means a lot.”
fkn-eloise:
“Okay, but I am not sucking your dick for $100.”
“When did I say that you had to do that? Besides, you’re the one who said your time cost money. I need to get outside, and right now, you’re my ticket out.”
Allowing her eyebrows to pull together in a little bit of a judgemental look she stared at the man for a few moments. “Well I don’t exactly know what you expect me to do. I’m pregnant, for starters so I can’t help you physically. And you should know what to do in these situations shouldn’t you?”
Mason looked at the brunette and laughed. “I--- I should know what to do in situations like these? Where kids steal my crutches? Right, I’m sorry. Of course I should have thought that someone would do that.”
damonty:
“ Got to look out for the short ones.” She walked them slowly, making sure to keep hold of her center of gravity. “ Are you worried I’ll drop you then? After that proclamation, I’m ashamed.”
Mason chuckled and nodded. “Oh, definitely. Short ones can do just as much damages as anyone else.” Looking down at her, he shook his head. “Nah. I think you’ll do just fine.”
drneslynbeinte:
The blonde shook head, already annoyed with whoever did this even despite not knowing the guy. “Alright, I think I can, at least, manage that.” Now Neslyn outstretched her hand offering it towards the male, “You can just put your arm around my shoulder.. I’ll be your personal crutch from here to your car.” She joked.
Mason took the blonde’s hand and pulled himself up from the chair, wrapping his arm around her shoulder like she had said. “Well, thank you. You’d be surprised at how little people actually, you know, care to help people who need it.” Shrugging, he looked at her and took a deep breath as a shot of pain went through his hip as he ad been sitting for too long. “Not one, before you came, stopped and actually bothered to help. Apparently everyone’s busy nowadays.”
ro-grahamrp:
“Well there was some soul searching and sometimes when you miss out on stuff you like it turns into your next career.”
"Mm. Do you regret it?” Mason looked at the woman, “I mean, giving so much of your time to your job? Do you regret not just saying, you know, fuck it, to it?”
“You have a minute of my time. I need to be at an important meeting in ten.”
“A minute? Well, I’m sorry, but that doesn’t really... I’m gonna need more than a minute.”
kieran-godwin:
“Of course, anything for you.” Kieran was already lushing towards the male, cocking his head as he examined the crippled man. “What can I help with?”
"I just need help to get outside. That’s all.”
“Are you allowed outside?”
“What? Of course I’m allowed outside. I just... I need help to get to the car, that’s all.”
“That, I can probably help with.” He offered an arm without hesitation. “Or do you want me to carry you out?”
Mason laughed and shook his head as he grabbed hold of the man’s arm. “Nah, your arm is more than enough. Thanks for the offer though!”
“What do you need help with?”
“I need to get outside.”
“Seriously? Who has the audacity to steal a crippled mans crutches.” Right after she pressed her lips in a thin line, hoping she didn’t offend the male by calling him crippled. “I don’t have any spare crutches around, so I assume you just need help getting somewhere?”
"Yeah, well, kids in San Francisco, apparently.” Mason shook his head, looking up at the girl, a little surprised that she had actually called him what he was. Not a lot of people dared to be so... Honest with him. It was definitely a nice surprise. “Uh, yeah, actually. I do. I have an appointment at the hospital in a couple of hours, and, well, I need to get outside and into my car.”
benny-fromtheblock:
“ Wow the kids are starting to get meaner these days…alright, uh–just toss your arm over my shoulder.”
Mason smiled at the man and nodded, tossing his arm around his shoulder, leaning against him. “I mean, I remember kids being quite mean when I was younger - but I’ll admit, I didn’t think they’d still be when I’m in my mid twenties.”
