Leaked Ep. 3 Cut Content
For the past couple months, leaks about episode 3′s development have been coming from two different people who knew beta testers that got to play early drafts of the game.
They cut sooooo much stuff. And I’m 99% sure the leaks were real and not a troll because they got so many details right and knew things like what days information was going to be announced and what songs would play in what parts. A lot of the stuff they said would happen, did happen. According to them, Deck Nine cut the best parts of the episode:
There was a scene with Steph where Chloe would talk about Rachel
Chloe would tell Steph she was realizing that she was a lesbian (and supposedly she was going to be very explicit in her language here. no “uh idk i think i might like girls no labels tho”)
Chloe and Steph were going to hug
There were multiple kisses
There was an implied sex scene
The bedroom scene was longer and you could talk to Rachel about running away.
There may have been a morning scene where you could change into Rachel’s clothes at her house.
Rachel initially wasn’t supposed to get hurt because Sera would save her
Sera and Rachel would actually speak
Sera was confirmed supernatural. She apparently had something to do with the crows and Chloe’s dreams.
There was a choice where Sera wanted Rachel to come back to California with her and Chloe could be for it or ask Rachel to stay in Arcadia (shit happened afterward and Rachel would always ended up staying though)
Sera knew about Chloe and Rachel’s relationship
Rachel was going to kick Eliot’s ass when he got creepy on Chloe
Rachel was going to be there when Chloe got knocked out by Damon
It was going to be Rachel’s idea for Chloe to dye her hair
Rachel was going to be with Chloe when she dyed her hair
Rachel was going to meet Joyce and David and defend Chloe against David (this may have been dependent on if you’ve pissed off David)
Max was originally in the play dream sequence
Max was going to be mentioned in the epilogue
Drew, Mikey, and Steph had more plot around their involvement with Damon
Supposedly even in the “just friends” path Chloe said something that implied she had romantic feelings for Rachel in the ending.
There was supposed to be a lot of really cute dialogue in the epilogue scenes. (You can honestly tell this is true because they went through the trouble of animating the characters talking and it looks like the dialogue just never got put in)
There was a kiss at the end (depending on intimacy)
There were 6 variations on the endings (3 for each, I believe, and I believe this had to do with your intimacy counter with Rachel.)
All endings were meant to be happy. No mention of the dark room being shown at the end.
The information came from beta testers which means that Deck Nine had all of this content. They wrote it and they voiced it and they animated it. It’s not like they cut it because it was Too Much to do. They literally…. did it… and then just… threw it away???? At least that’s my understanding. I’m SO baffled right now tbh.
Even if the beta testers were somehow lying and coincidentally managed to get insanely weird details correct, their fake episode 3 was better than the real one, and I’m pretending this is the version we actually got.
Sure you are. You just don’t know it yet.
Tomb Raider (2013) | Tomb Raider (2018)
Theory time. Topic: Life is Strange
I have always wondered how Max Caulfield ever got her powers in the first place. Yeah, it’s a video game and there can be magical elements sometimes, but this is different. This is a game that, if you strip away those magical elements, is about a relationship that is built off of hardships and trust.
When I was playing Before the Storm, I opened up Chloe’s journal and found this image:
Now, originally, I thought it was meant to symbolize how Max had abandoned Chloe (with the date on the tree crossed out) and how Max was therefore “dead” to Chloe. However, I think it is deeper than that.
In this picture, Max is not the Max that Chloe remembers. She is the Max Caulfield from the previous game with the same shirt, hair, and camera. How would Chloe have any idea of these events? The dream is supposed to be in the present, 3 years before the events of the first game.
I think it is supposed to mean that Max killed herself. In real life.
My way of seeing it is that Max did return to Arcadia Bay for school. She did attend Jefferson’s class. However, she never had time travel powers. Picture Max doing the same routine from the first scene of the game: she is walking to the bathroom. She goes into a stall, but there is no butterfly. She uses the restroom, then what? A boy and a girl walk in. The girl gets shot. Max runs to help.
It’s Chloe.
Max feels crushed. She hasn’t tried to contact Chloe the entire time she had been in Arcadia Bay. She thinks, “Maybe if I had reached out to her, I could have saved her”.
Chloe and her were inseparable, and I think she may have killed herself after she saw her best friend murdered in a school bathroom.
This starts the adventures of the first game. She wakes up and is in Jefferson’s class, goes to the bathroom, but this time she has time travel powers.
This is her path, if you will, to the afterlife. The whole first game is an elaborate journey to close off the demons that bothered both Max and Chloe.
Here are the goals of the two characters:
Max - To save or help Chloe in anyway possible to ease her guilt and make up for lost time
Chloe - To find the truth about Rachel as well as rediscover her own self-worth and know that she was, and always has been, loved by those that were closest to her.
The first game tackles both of these, allowing both characters to die peacefully. Max is able to save Chloe, multiple times, thereby destroying the guilt she felt before about not doing so. Chloe is able to get closure on Rachel because now she has something and someone to blame for the loss of her love.
I have more to back this up. If you go into the text messages in the journal during the dream sequence, you will see these images:
Max sends “Don’t Worry. I’m going to see you real soon. When you’re dead”. When I first read this, it seemed like it was condescending. Just Chloe’s mind playing tricks on her. However, if you look closely, the times on the messages are backwards. They were sent in reverse.
The message actually reads: “When you’re dead, I’m going to see you real soon. Don’t worry”.
This theory not only answers a bunch of plot holes, but also a lot of questions. I had one regarding the Ghost Deer when they find Rachel’s body.
This deer appears, and Max can see her. Wouldn’t that freak her out? But it didn’t. Instead, it led her to the place where Rachel was buried.
If Max’s destiny in this journey was to help Chloe discover what happened, then it was fulfilled. The Ghost Deer disappears after they find Rachel, after Max’s duty is fulfilled. Max has always worn the deer outfit and has always been the shy character. The disappearance of the deer is meant to symbolize Max telling herself that her mission has ended, that she has fulfilled her one true wish of helping Chloe.
And my other question involves Rachel herself.
I loved Rachel in Before the Storm. I loved her so much that I ignored all of the flaws she had in the first game. And then I remembered, what were her flaws?
One of which was that she betrayed Chloe and started to develop a relationship with Frank, Chloe’s drug dealer. After playing Before the Storm, this was so odd to me. I kept on wondering why Rachel, someone who was absolutely devoted to Chloe, would ever betray her in such a way.
Then this theory came along. If all the events in the first game was just a journey to the afterlife, it would also come with all of the character’s fears. Chloe’s greatest weakness is that she doesn’t think she is enough. She always questions whether people love her.
The relationship between Rachel and Frank was discovered during the first game, not before. It is a symbol of Chloe’s subconscious fears that Rachel never did love her and that she was just using her, like Eliot had said.
This theory literally hit me like a rock. As soon as I thought of it as a possibility, everything started falling into place. I’m not sure if this was the intention (because again, it’s just a theory), but I thought it was very interesting and a little too convenient.
The Tomb Raider Grid Podcasts
Richard Moss, the author of an investigative piece “It felt like robbery”: Tomb Raider and the fall of Core Design, presents two podcasts on the importance of the grid in the classic Tomb Raider games.
Every aspect of the original Core Design Tomb Raider series (and by extension the franchise’s success post-Core) comes back to the grid that lies beneath it — the majority of the puzzles; the platforming; the cavernous chambers and ruins and outdoor areas that provide a sense of isolation, of solitude and discovery; and Lara Croft’s iconic acrobatic movement style…
This is the story of how that came to be, and how it made Tomb Raider…well, Tomb Raider, based on interviews with Heather Stevens (née Gibson) and Gavin Rummery as well as my past work covering Tomb Raider’s history as a freelancer…

So I made a thing. It’s a retrospective on Destiny, more specifically on 3 years of Destiny 1. The OG Destiny. I don’t know why I did this. But hey, it’s a good time possibly. No promises. I am bad at promoting videos, look go watch it. GIVE ME DEM VIEWS!!!!
So I made a video breaking down the new Tomb Raider trailer, so get ready to experience the ramblings of a slightly obsessed Tomb Raider nerd. It’s a good time I promise.

Btw i want to ask you this question: should i buy Angel of Darkness game? Will i regret it? Everyone is saying that it's a buggy, incomplete game etc but i think i wanna give it a shot. What should i do? And also what other games with female lead that you would recommed to me? Pardon my english.
Oh, yes, you should totally give it a chance! The game is, indeed, a little buggy, but mostly if you play the PS version. I always played my TRs in PC and after you install all the patches and corrections, the glitches and bugs are minimal. In fact it has never bothered me. I didn’t realized it the first time.
And yes, the game is incomplete too, but you know the reasons for that and at the first time I played it, I didn’t even realize! I thought it was all OK, and awaited the sequel with great expectations and enthusiasm *sigh* Some research must be done on this game before roasting it without more, there was so much potential and ambitious project behind it, and all that info is now available. Ignorance is not an excuse to spread bullshit.
The main problem with this game are the difficult controls, but they are not impossible to use at all - once you get used to them, there are no big deal except for a couple of boss fights. As for the rest, the bad reviews and bullshit you can find about this game are basically exaggerations!
Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness is, still today, the best TR ever done to me - and that with all its bugs, clumsy controls and cuts and removals. I love the old classics, of course, but TRAOD is the game who blew up my mind.
Why? It’s simple. TRAOD has:
- Best storyline ever made for a TR. It’s mature, and complicated, and well thought, and with much quality and deep background. You can’t only get a little grasp of it at the game itself actually, there’s much more behind it that was never included.
- Best soundtrack ever made for a TR. It’s a fact. No soundtrack in the franchise has beat the TRAOD one - not even the latest modern OSTs.
- Best dialogues, best characterization, best cutscenes. There’s no minute to waste in this game, no detail to be taken for granted. Not only the main characters but also the villains and the side-characters are fascinating. The dialogues are so mature, witty and clever. Damn, dialogues in LAU trilogy are a collection of clichés in comparison.
- Best character after Lara herself. Kurtis is a fantastic character, and totally unforgettable despite 90% of his planned content was removed from the game. But his background story is richer and much more elaborated than Lara’s itself. Let you be seduced by him, honestly.
- Best aesthetics. The artwork from this game is simply beautiful.
- And finally, the best Lara ever. TRAOD Lara is not only the most beautiful model ever made - I still prefer her over any LAUra/Laraboot models - but also the most charming, sarcastic, sultry and badass ever. Her classic self was fantastic, an icon, and I will love her forever, but in TRAOD the anger and short-fused spirit added to that makes her delightful to me. It was more Lara than ever. More human than ever. Not just by the way she reacts to another characters, but also, for the first time, to a potential love interest, in more in-character and authentic way for her than in any movie or comic.
So, yeah, definitely, GET THE GAME. Of course all I exposed it’s just my opinion, and I’m a TRAOD fan to the bone - no bullshit, no bad reviews, no glitches, no bad controls made me hate this game a little.
But I seriously think you should not listen to the opinions of others - me included! - and give the game a chance for yourself. Just enjoy it without more. Play it. Don’t let anyone to decide what TRAOD is for you.
Because most of the bad reviews and opinions concerning TRAOD are made by people who hasn’t played the game, who has not done any kind of research about the problems and difficulties this game endured before its release, or directly, for people who clearly exaggerates the glitches or dislike, in any way, all the innovations this game contributed with to the franchise: dark, maturer storyline, a male partner for Lara, the dialogues, and other stuff.
Ah, just before I finish: the famous “TRAOD has no tombs” is the absolute, purest bullshit you can ever listen about this game. And there’s only one way to find out why it’s bullshit.
Good luck and nice playing. ;)
Also, about other games with female inspiring characters, I loved very much Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us, also Horizon Zero Dawn, even Mass Effect if you make Sheppard/Ryder female. But that belongs to another ask, I guess… :)
