When out of town guests arrive, you take them to the Amber Box in the Guthrie Theater. December, 2014.
When out of town friends visit and and want to see your boo: Matt is from Milwaukee and Geny is from Dubai. Never did I imagine how Instagram could bring such disparate people together.
Minneapolis Central Library, November, 2013. Kodak Portra 160.
Bridge shenanigans with Peter. November, 2014.
Portraits of Eric and Rita from November, 2013, Minneapolis, MN. Medium format, Kodak Portra 160.
Geese on a foggy day at Boom Island Park. October, 2013. Medium Format, Portra 160
"Lowryhenge" -- Autumnal Equinox at the Lowry Avenue Bridge, Minneapolis, September, 2014. More informally referred to as "MattsBoo4LyfeHenge". There is an apartment complex (seen in the sunset shot) that cast a shadow on the south half of the bridge which is most promentant in the shadow selfie. While I was standing directly in the center of the bridge, my shadow never quite hit dead center -- the sun set about five minutes too soon.
Last visit to Moorhead, MN. October, 2013.
I made sure to get a last porch portrait of my mother in law while at her favorite house. While playing around, I took a bokeh leaf shot because 90% blurry = art.
Dawn at Salisbury Beach, MA. September, 2013.
Last September I had a trip to New Hampshire and I made sure to stay at a hotel on the beach. It didn't have Wi-Fi, but it did lull me to sleep with the dulcet sound of ocean waves. I awoke a good hour before sunrise and walked the beach alone. Until I didn't. I met Tom here fishing. He's a twice divorced construction worker with a daughter and a granddaughter who loves to fish watch the sun rise before work. He also has a stellar beard! We hit it off rather well talking about the locals and life in general. He mostly stood by while crabs ate his bait while I took in the ocean and occasionally snapping away.
Studies in light leaks. Alternate title: "learn how to use the battery test button on your Bronica and not mess with every switch on the camera". Blue hour shot is under a restaurant at Salisbury Beach, MA, one second exposure. Second shot is Odiorne State Park close to sunset in New Hampshire. September, 2013.
Goldilocks and Glacier National Park, August, 2013.
That is the name of our wagon that took out to the Pacific and back to Minnesota. She was a real trooper even when a couple of almost late model cars had to be towed out of Yellowstone NP. This Mercedes (gas) is 25 years old and had 231,641 miles on her after our 4,768 mile road trip. The cruise control (which I had just fixed) failed right at the beginning of the trip and the central lock system stopped working, but other than that, she was flawless the whole trip.
On the way home we weren’t planning on driving through Glacier NP, but we weren’t sure when we’d be able to be back. The stream in the second shot had water so clear that I had to remind myself that there was indeed moving water. There was no silt, just amazingly clean, smooth rocks. Also, it tasted delicious.
Roadside windmills, Central Washington, August, 2013.
Last Days in Seattle -- Lake Union, The Schielke's at a park in Green Lake, my brother's family, and a enjoying the sun at Golden Gardens Park. August, 2013, 35mm.
Ferry Ride Approach to Seattle, August, 2013.
Rialto Beach, outside La Push, WA. August, 2013. 35mm.
Hoh Rain Forrest, Olympic National Park, Washington. August, 2013.
The spruce trees here were dreamy. Although, I will have to come back during the rainy season because in August, it is dusty. Quite the juxtaposition to have dried out moss hanging from every branch in a rain forrest. Notice the two hikers in the first shot for a sense of scale of these trees. Also note the rabbit ears of over the boy in the fourth shot.
