I wasn't being a dick, i am genuinely interested in why a product, let's say a mass produced knife set for a kitchen, couldn't be free.

It can be called/deemed “Free” by the government. But, in reality I/you/we/us as taxpayers are footing the bill for it.

So, to an "economic illiterate", could you explain why somethings just can't be free?

Other than Air. Give me an example where the government gives you something “Free” and I’ll show you where someone else pays for it
