I bought this on the 2nd day it was out, and at the time not many stores had copies of it. This was the first Resident Evil to be made from the ground up for the 3DS, and the graphics definitely show this. It seemed that the game was a little rushed, which was partially a good thing because of how awful the 3DS launch titles were, bleh. They used a engine that was made for mobile games, but they re-worked it to fit the 3DS and you can sometimes see it in the framerate. This game donât really have a story, the game takes its form in missions, which some can be played in online co-op which is really convenient for levels late in the game. The game is based on the Mercenaries mode that was in both Resident Evil 4 and 5, and it is fairly fun, but can get repetitive, and the enjoyment after the credits roll is shortly lived, because the only thing that is unlocked is an extra set of missions titled: EX, and yes it is as difficult as it sounds, which may make you piss your gym shorts (not recommended). Alongside of levels from RE4 & 5 is a mix of heroes and villains from other iterations of the series, such as Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, Claire Redfield, Barry Burton, HUNK, Jack Krauser, and of course Albert Wesker. Along with this somewhat mix and match characters they allow you to unlock an alternate outfit for each character and unlock different skillsets that give you advantages for different categories like increased weapon damage, more random perks, and stuff that make your herbs give you more of a health boost. But by using the Play Coins you earn by walking around with your 3DS, you can unlock each characterâs weapons to be used with a different character. The enemies are actually pretty intelligent in this game, although I donât see the logic of having the axemen being able to jump to the top of high ledges⊠You will probably reach the credits within a week of buying it. Despite some flaws and not much extra content included, this game will not hold you off until Resident Evil: Revelations is released in 2012.
They include the 5 minutes of the upcoming 3DS game within The Mercenaries, the graphics look amazing, and the old feel of the series comes back to haunt you in this game, you play as Jill Valentine walking through a possibly deserted ship, not much else is known after playing it, but thatâs Capcom for you, keeping the story secret just to make us want to buy it later on. BasicallyâŠthe demo doesnât disappoint, but is way to short for my tastes.
MY SCORE: 84%- WILL KEEP YOU ENTERTAINED FOR A WEEK, TRY BEFORE YOU BUY, THERE ISNâT ANYTHING NEW HERE TO MARVEL AT ALTHOUGH THE VISUALS ARE STUNNING. BOOGEDY BOOGEDY BOO!
