"Hostile Architecture", by Ashenspire is one of the weirdest metal albums I've ever heard, and that definitely isn't a bad thing. It is so unique, with a strange Avante-garde sound, that also incorporates vocals that are as much talking as screaming. The lyrical content is well thought out and on point, dealing with real world issues that some of us see everyday. I only intended to listen to 2 or 3 songs, but I found myself listening to the entire album, because the emotional performance had me completely hooked. Very captivating, unique, and one of the best metal albums of 2022. 8.5/10

Another album released much earlier, I waited far too long to listen to Behemoth's "Opvs Contra Natvram", Which dropped on 9/16/22. Usually, blackened death metal has to be listened to in small proportions for me, but this album kept me hooked from the sinister intro "Post-God Nirvana", to the end. Every song was enticing, evil, and relentlessly brutal. This album was worth the full hour I spent listening to it, and replaying my favorite tracks, such as "My Herculean Exile", "Off To War!", "Upon a Pale Horse", and "Thy Becoming Eternal". This is a 2022 must listen for fans of extreme metal. Solid 7.5/10

This one isn't new, but I thought I'd review one of my favorite albums of the year: Parkway Drive's "Darker Still", released 9/9/2022. When I began to listen to this one, I had very high expectations, and the beginning of the opening track, "Ground zero", fooled me into believing that Parkway Drive was going soft. Although it does pick up, some may be disappointed by it. However, The album progressively picks up, with notable tracks like "The greatest fear," "Soul bleach", "Like Napalm", and the title track. Every song is memorable, unique, and interesting. Great album, 7/10, definitely feels like an improved version of 2015's "Ire".
