With an afternoon of life drawing scheduled during this first block i thought it would best to get some practise in due to it being a very long time indeed since I last drew anything from life, and after last week, the first time I have drawn something to scale.
There may not be a lot of life in this particular subject but it is anatomically correct at the very least! I’ll post some examples later in the week and at least if they are terrible I’m hoping they will show some progression in my drawing by the time the unit finishes.

Coursework from last years Art and Design unit where we were tasked with making promotional material for a screening of The 39 Steps, the Hitchcock film adaption from the novel written in 1915 by Scottish author John Buchan.
Taken during my visit to New York City last year as part of the Gray’s School of Art study trip, with only five days to explore I only got the smallest taste of what The Big Apple had to offer - a return trip in the future has definately got to be on the cards at some point. This was taken at the Top of the Rock, or Rockefeller Centre, which offers far superior views than that of the Empire State building seen opposite form the Rock here, which has glass walls going all around the viewing levels.
I guess i should starting using this now I’m in my final year of Visual Communication - and last year in education in general. So I’ll start by sharing this image that I shot over the summer that is to be used in promotional material for Krakatoa, a music venue and bar in the centre of Aberdeen.
The bar has undergone a host of major building works and refurbishments over the last few years including extending the stage, new toilets, new seating and upholstery along with undergoing a rebrand where the bars name was changed.
The rebrand focused on the bars image as a ‘dive bar’, which is not to be confused with places that are actually ‘a dive’ or an unpleasant place to be... The bar is brightly lit throughout with artwork adorning the walls and towards the rear of the room is the Tiki bar that offers a wide variety of rum based cocktails served in glass jars and in typical dive bar style they are extravegantly garnished with fresh fruit, ice, and pineapple shoots. The images we shot over a two week period are to be used to advertise the latest additions to the menu and will be framed and displayed in the bar once the artist they are currently with has finished adding his own personal touch, but for now, here’s one without the additional artwork.
