Final Work - Assessment three
Experiment - assessment three:
We did the experiment about girls’ things like shopping because we choose the weekly concept of desire as our topic. So we found a lot of receipts to represent how many things girls would buy in their daily, but, to some extent, some of things they buy is useless or they would never use it. As a result, because of this desire, they would buy a lot things that they wouldn’t use. Therefore, I used this receipts and tore these up and threw it, which shows preventing the desire and stoping to buy something.
However, in this experiment, there is no many things that engage with the object and people, so we would figure out in our final work.
Final Work + 700-word concept Statement + Bibliography:
When I prepared to start assessment two, I did not know if I should keep doing ‘water and oil’. However, I recognized that I can use the advice my tutor gave me into assessment two, which is representation. Therefore, I started to think about how I can use representation into assessment. I realized I can use video to make the representation, because something can represent water and oil and it would be a direct way to show how water and oil are engaged. Hence, I kept the idea - water and oil - and I thought I can make an animation of these.
Therefore, when I first started, I tried to make sure the density between water and oil, because what I was thinking is different density can show different personal character. As a result of this, I can use the different density or personal character to show how water and oil cannot be mixed and how water and oil can be merged. I found that the density of water is 1.0g/ml and the density of oil is 0.91g/ml - 0.93g/ml, so I decided water is the ‘bad’ person in the beginning because water is always under oil and this can mean water is heavier than oil. Moreover, another reason that I chose water as the ‘bad’ person is that water and oil can be visually mixed by boiling water. Thus, the character of the basic story was finished at this stage.
Before I started to make the video, I knew a movie using different painting together in the last year, which is ‘Loving Vincent’. So, I researched it, and I found that there are 6 painting each second, then it can make a movie smooth. However, because of my work, it is a simple work, compared ‘Loving Vincent’. So, I was thinking each picture occupy a second.
Because of the animation, I made the figure cute. However, at this stage, I tried to find a way that can open the story. Therefore, I wrote the monologue and read it, then put it into the video. After I finished the monologue and the figure of water and oil, I realized it would be too empty if there are only two people in school. So I did another three figures, which is watermelon, chili and lettuce. After that, I started to paint the first scene as initial experiment. Then, I put the first scene together and took the photo. I felt it is too empty, so after I edit the empty one, I started to put all figures in. Then it felt much better.
Because of the success, I kept doing the following story, which is all the figures meet in the playground. So, I use water and another three figures as starting point and oil join in. Then, water can ignore oil and leave playground in order to show water and oil are contradictory (water and oil cannot be mixed). However, when I started to take photos in this scene first time, I didn’t fix the source of light, so different photos had different source of light. As a result of this, I had to redo it. In this times, I used one lamp, one iPad and an iPhone to fix the light. As a result of this, it was successful in this way. Therefore, I got the experience at this stage.
As a result of this, I absorbed the experience and kept doing my work. I still made the scene first then put together with figures. In different scene, there are different plots, so I would still make different emotion as well. However, when I took photos of water’s bedroom. There are something wrong again. I was thinking to write what water is thinking in her mind about oil. However, when I really did it, I found it did not work, because firstly I was not easy to write the words, then I turn around my phone to get the photos and also it would influence the atmosphere. Therefore, I just deleted all the photo about the words and altered it into caption. Even though I just tried to use caption, it did work and felt much better than the physical words.
Then, in the plot of water’s bedroom, the relationship between water and oil is changed, so it can be depicted as a turning point - water and oil are merged together, because in the end of video, they play with each other together. As a result of this, I interrogate the question of binaries and offer new insights to audiences between water and oil.

Experiment + process ten:
This is all the figures in the animation, including Water and Oil, watermelon, lettuce and chili. Then, all the emotion is on the face of figures and in the second picture.
Experiment + process nine: After I took the pictures, I recognised that the pictures of handwriting is different shape. Therefore, it cannot be used into the video. As a result of this, I would try different ways to show Water’s ideas.
Experiment+process eight: Due to the reason that I tried how to make the background or the scene better a lot of times in last one, in this times, I directly finish all the scene together. Then, I would use the idea I used in my first scene to create the animation.
Research:
Due to the reason that I am doing an animation in this assessment, I did a research about animations. I found that ‘Loving Vincent’ is an movie with oil paintings. All the artists (125 artists) and editors joined in the work to make thousands of paintings in order to show a continuous and dynamic way. Even though my work tends be like this method, it seems like a cartoon. Therefore, I would use the way to show my work but have longer time between each picture.

Experiment+process seven: I have the experience in last times, so before I started it, I use one lamp, two lights from phones to fix the source of light. Therefore, in this times, the scene and the light are much better and clearer than last one. It is successful by doing this. Therefore, I would use this method in my following steps.
Experiment+process six: This is my first try for the first scene. After I’d done all the photos in this part, I uploaded it into video application and realised the light is all different in all the pictures. Therefore, because of the experience, I have to make sure the light of all the photos is fixed when I redo it next times.
Experiment+process five: After I did the last experiment, I recognised that there is so empty in the playground if I don’t put any figures. Therefore, I redo it in this. I put the figures I did in the playground, and took pictures again. Then, I put these into the video. It showed that this is much better than last experiment.
Experiment+process four: I just tried it because I don’t know how I can start it to make the beginning. So I built the scene together and took pictures and finally put it together. This is because I want to show all the students is in the classroom rather than the playground. Therefore, during the period, there is no any figure showed.
Experiment+process three:
Before I started my work, I wanted to have a beginning of this video. Therefore, I wrote the monologue first and recored it, but, during the process, it failed a lot of times, so I recored it a lot of times. I think this is the best recording of my all of recordings.
Monologue:
You know? In our school, there is a girl. She doesn’t like… new students change to our class. If someone comes, she will isolate them. There is no reason. But something changed. I should tell you the story from few weeks ago.
Experiment+process two: In this experiment, I tried to one of the scenes I might be used after. The scene is about a playground of school, so I make a whole view of teaching building and part of ground.
Experiment+process One: My first step is to make two figure in the process, which is water and oil. I tried to show the appearance of water and oil like water and oil. Therefore, I used yellow and white to differentiate these. But after I made the two small figure, I recognised that it is too empty if the scene is in school. Thus, I made more figures for my following steps, including lettuces, watermelon and chilli. As a result of this, I think it is enough to show a small friend circle in my artwork.
Research:
In order to make sure the density of water and oil, I did some research about the density. Therefore, it can bring the reason why water is always under oil. As a result of this, I would try to put water an oil together in physical and digital ways and show how different water and oil can be.

The direction of Assessment two:
I would keep doing water and oil under binary in assessment two, because I did water an oil in assessment one and I found that these can be a quite interesting point if I do and success in assessment two. Therefore, I would try different ways to show how water and oil engage together and bring different viewpoints to audiences through my experiment and the final work.
