Final Work - Assessment three
Experiment - assessment three:
We did the experiment about girls’ things like shopping because we choose the weekly concept of desire as our topic. So we found a lot of receipts to represent how many things girls would buy in their daily, but, to some extent, some of things they buy is useless or they would never use it. As a result, because of this desire, they would buy a lot things that they wouldn’t use. Therefore, I used this receipts and tore these up and threw it, which shows preventing the desire and stoping to buy something.
However, in this experiment, there is no many things that engage with the object and people, so we would figure out in our final work.
Final Statement:
Our group chose to do perception in assessment two; therefore I use ‘perception’ in assessment three as well. Before I started to do my experiments and final work, I was thinking I can get some ideas from the PowerPoint of perception. I chose to use the definition of perceiving things through the senses - our ears (hearing), eyes (seeing), touch (haptic), feeling vibration.
Thus, I was thinking I can perceive lives or the city in different way, so I collected different sounds from the city and put that together to amplify the senses of the city. Then, I did a feeling expression by drawing a random line, when listening to different types of music, in order to virtually show how we feel different sounds (music). Meanwhile, the reason why I was doing this because I was influenced by the artwork called Hand Movie. However, after I finished first and second experiment, I felt like it is not easy to reflect the life in the city. Therefore, I made a extension of my direction in this topic.
I attempted to reflect different senses in simple objects, which means the objects we can easier get. Therefore, I did the third experiment. I collect a number of sounds from simple objects, including water from tap, a bottle of water, drawing board, palette, a bottle of pills, etc. In this way, I found that it can be easier and clearer to strengthen the sounds. Therefore, because of the success, I commenced to work with my final work.
Based on these experiments and all the steps I gave (below), what I need to do in my final work was getting quite clearer. Hence, I just took a general video, and mute all the sound from the video. Then, I use the way that I use in experiment three. I found or created a similar sound to the original one, and connect with the video. As a result of this, even though it is not original sound, it would not be too strange and could produce different perception of seeing, hearing and feeling.
Assessment three - Final work: In my final work, I make the video that expresses things through the hearing, seeing and feeling senses together. Due to the reason that I am influenced by the hand movie, I substitute all the original sounds to another sounds. For example, there are four short video in it. First one, I substitute by the sound of pencils. Second one is a bottle of pills. Third one is that I tear a paper. The final one is rubbing on my cutting mat by my forearms. Therefore, it can bring different perception of daily things, even though some of these would be a little bit strange or some of these would be nearly similar to original sounds.
Assessment three - steps: This is all my experiments or steps from top to bottom and I come up with relative ideas based on my initial idea and previous experiments and steps, before getting my final work. Even though I did not make all the five experiments, it still helps me find how I can go to next step, how I can develop my idea and how I can engage with my artwork.
Assessment three - inspiration:
I am influenced by the video, because it gave me some ideas to create into my artwork. For example, I do not need to show a dance or a dancer by a person. Instead, it can be shown by different things, such as hands. Therefore, I would connect the inspiration with my artwork.
Assessment three - Idea source:
My idea comes from one of definition of perception. I have chosen to reflect this in my artwork because I think it is a broader way to get different senses by perceiving different things.
Experiment three:
In this experiment, I start to collect and create the sound from simple objects, including pencils, water from tap, a bottle of water, clothes etc. As a result of this, even though you may think some of sounds are the same or quite similar, it is from different objects and different materials. Also, if you hear these sound without visual senses, you would tend to be confused and struggled with what this object is or what objects can make this sound. Therefore, I think it is a good way to perceive something from our ears.
