aylaxc:
Feeling her let go and turning her around. Ayla’s eyes stayed closed for a moment longer, knowing she looked like a complete mess. Her eyes were puffy and she just brought her hand up to wipe the tear stains off her cheeks while listening to her. Everything Maya had said ran through her mind almost every day, and she had to hold back her emotions before she started crying again. It was bad enough that she looked like this in front of the girl. “Were you ever told by someone that they were glad things ended the way they did, and pretty much said that they couldn’t be who they were and basically said that they couldn’t be sober with you? Also that things would never work out between you two because of it?” Ayla shook her head. “What’s wrong with me? It seems like anyone who would even be interested in me is under the influence with something and that’s the only way I can be liked.” She said while forcing a laugh out. “Am I that screwed up?”
maya listens to ayla’s words, her face an assortment of concern and sadness for the other. it was true maya only had begun to know ayla, only knowing a few basic facts, but she couldn’t imagine that anyone could think anything less but great things for the now emotional girl. maybe maya was just an optimist who wanted - and preferred - to see the best in people. was that a flaw? “i’m 100% sober and i’m here.” she points out, “i’m sorry that someone could say that to you and even more sorry that they meant it. you’re not screwed up.” maya softly pulls ayla’s hands and wraps the girl into a tight embrace, “people are jerks.” she says, “they want to hurt you, they want to blame you for their insecurities.” she let’s the other go, a hand softly caressing her cheek, “but i promise you’re not the problem. they are. it’s hard, but you can’t let the words of a few people change who you are.” a beat, “can i take you somewhere? i promise it’ll make you feel better.”
