Full name: Heathcliff Brontë Goodwin
Age: 40 years old
Birthday: October 2nd, 1981
Birth place: Beaumont, South Carolina
Profession: Former military (Army), failed senator, current mayor of Lighthouse Cove
Military medals: Silver Star, Purple Heart
Family: raised by a single mother, Mary Goodwin (deceased); no siblings
Relationship status: single, formerly engaged
Heathcliff was born to a single mother in 1981. His father tried to be part of his life in the beginning, but by his first birthday, his dad had left the family
He was named after the character from Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë (which is where his middle name came from)
While his mother clearly loves the novel, Heathcliff hates (he's got strong opinions about it)
As a kid, he went by Heath and used to think he would change it, but after his mother's death when he was 18, he started using his full name and has decided to keep it to honor his mother; it's grown on him (though he still hates that book)
Growing up, Heathcliff's mother had a string of boyfriends, and while they were never physically abusive to either Mary or Heathcliff, they were usually losers who didn't last. Heathcliff never told his mom that it might have been because she was seeking inspiration in a partner using a book full of horrible people
After high school, where Heathcliff was an average student, not great but decent, he enlisted in the Army. It hadn't been his plan, but his mother had died and left him no money to speak of, he had no other family, and this was essentially his only option
Heathcliff found himself in the Army. He proved to be a good soldier, earning the respect of his peers and superiors when he saved several members of his unit during an attack, which earned him The Silver Star medal
When he wasn't overseas, Heathcliff was stationed in Colorado
His military career was cut short when his unit was attacked again, leaving Heathcliff as the only survivor, though he'd been injured. Shot in the shoulder, Heathcliff could no longer serve, so he was awarded The Purple Heart medal and honorably discharged
One of the members of his unit who perished that day was Heathcliff's best friend, and he still mourns him; he's got the man's initials, DCM, tattooed on his wrist to honor him
For awhile, Heathcliff was depressed, and he still deals with that and PTSD. He didn't always handle it well, but he's trying
Heathcliff fell into a world of sex and drugs to numb the pain, and while he was never arrested, there was certain photographic evidence that would come back to haunt him
While at an event in Los Angeles for current and former military with distinguished honors attended by many celebrities, Heathcliff met actor Trey Price, and they began a romance
For a time, Heathcliff lived in Los Angeles, working on sets as an extra or an assistant so he could be near Trey
After being discharged, Heathcliff turned to a career in politics, wanting to make some changes to the U.S. military program that could help protect the troops. He decided to run for Senator in his native South Carolina
While he was favored to win in a tight race, a few nights before the vote, his painful past was revealed, which pushed his opponent over the edge. Heathcliff was shattered and humiliated
Needing to figure his life out, Heathcliff decided to stay in South Carolina, and soon after his failed senatorial bid, he ran for mayor of Lighthouse Cove
While it's far from what Heathcliff had wanted for his life, he can't deny the appeal of the pleasant little vista, and he hopes this was a good decision; however, he still struggles to deal with all of his wasted potential
As Heathcliff's dreams fell to pieces, Trey's seemed to be coming true, and it was difficult for the man to deal with that. Heathcliff knew it was petty, but his jealousy made him mean
The couple had already planned to move to Lighthouse Cove after Heathcliff won his election to become mayor, but after one final fight that was the last straw for both of them, Heathcliff and Trey broke up
Now the former couple lives together but aren't together, trying to figure out this new dynamic
Luckily the mayor's house is huge, so they can avoid each other if they want to. The question though is this: is that what they really want?
