deep sentences meme – accepting 

     ryuji’s lips purse until there’s nothing but a thin line slashing across his face when he’s questioned. again. his mind stalls, scampering to plenty of other subjects before it’s finally forced to focus on the subject at hand. is he really happy now? 

     there’s a hitch in his breath, just enough to make his chest shudder as he exhales.

     the answer is no, but this is ryuji. he’s always happy. he has so many things to be thankful for, so much to be happy about. 

     ...

     but even all of those things don’t always manage to pull him out of the sinking pit that becomes his mind as the sun goes down. all the love and care in the world can’t save him from the toxic waste that spills across the would-be peaceful canvas of his mind. when darkness falls, the demons awake. 

     and it is not a valiant fight, no war to be won with these demons. it is a constant struggle, every day, to awaken and find there to be no real motivation to remove himself from the comfort of his bed. only the thoughts of his friends and school and the phantom thieves manage to rouse the boy these days. having to feign enthusiasm and excitement at any given moment is exhausting. but he powers through.

     he powers through because he has no other choice. to not power through would be to give up, to become worthless, just like his father always said he was. he powers through because he wants to build his mother a house in the south, where it’s warmer. he powers through because there are children in the future that will be untouched by kamoshida’s vile influence that he can help. 

     he powers through because he is ryuji sakamoto and his name might as well mean to endure.
