Gill Seating Breakdown: Where to Sit?
We all the know that feeling when you first walk through the double doors of the basketball gymnasium in Gill and you find your self starring left, right, up, down, to find the perfect seat. Scratch that, the Mecca of seats. The stands are shaking and the bleachers are so crowded that students are standing right behind the out of bounds line. The smell of beer and the aggressive screams runs rampant through Gill gymnasium. The decision is hard. The pressures of the crowd and the screaming defense impede your decision-making and your motor skills believe it or not. After reading this post you will immediately know where to go to find the crowd you want to join.
That moment when you realize how this blog is going to change your life at McDaniel
The Student Section -"Animal House"
Now lets be honest and come right out and say it. The student section is basically a scene from straight from the movie "Animal house". The students are packed into the small bleachers of gill just as Otter and his fraternity were but in a party fest frat house. Also inebriated, well not all. To me it also seems that the students in this section believe that the administration does not exist as they cause terror throughout gill. Loud, hot, and lets not forget aggressive, are all three adjectives that barely describe the student section. Located to your immediate right after entering the gym. In this section you have your students, who are full of "school pride", and have a very colorful vocabulary. If you choose to sit here, you better be ready to get yelled at to cheer, stand, and flat out scream. This is where you will see the quiet kid from the library screaming and yelling trying to pick a fight with a official over a plain good referee call. Also this section of hecklers, spectators, and screaming enthusiast were once known to McDaniel as the Terror squad. I was in fact part of the Terror Squad my freshman and sophomore year and we were commanding the gym with every chant and heckle. The Terror Squad were banned from forming as a group on the sides of the court and bleachers. The administration was not to happy with our "school pride". Now that's some history for you!

Here is a blog with list of basketball heckles to get you prepared to enter the student section if you choose.
The Visitors Section -"Offsides"
No Green Terror is ever morally allowed to sit in this section. The visitors section is located to the right of the student section and behind the away teams bench. This section is compiled of the opposing teams fans, students and parents. Sometimes some freshman wonder over but that is normal. If you sit here, I advise you to leave your McDaniel gear in your dorm room.
Sideline Section-"The Apathetic Section"
To the left of the student section along the courts sideline is what I call the "apathetic section" because of its lack of emotion and involvement. This section houses your McDaniel parents, your athletes on 24 hour rule, and the students who don't want any attention drawn to them. This section is great for people who just want to watch the game quietly and closely. The one disadvantage of sitting here is that you will stand out if you have at least one ounce of fun or school pride inside you.
When we score. Your reaction vs. Parents reaction
The Upper Level-"The Conference Section"
This section is located above "The apathetic section". This is where all of your professors, deans, and other McDaniel staff sit. Occasionally, some elders from the town would join them, but that is rare. I call this area "The Conference Section" because of the mass population of staff there. And I witnessed a teacher giving feed back on a term paper during a basketball game. But thats all beside the point. If you sit here, plan to watch your mouth, your friends mouth, your reactions, and your volume.
