McDaniel College hosts a plethora of fraternities and sororities, but the only sorority that’s completely original to McDaniel is Phi Alpha Mu. Being the only local sorority, Phi Alph, as it’s called around campus, has deep historical ties to McDaniel. The philanthropy chair of Phi Alpha Mu, Julia Hurlock, said “If you meet a Phi Alph, you know they went here at McDaniel. All of our siblings have gone to the same school.”
if anyone is considering attending McDaniel college I have a suggestion for you
don't. it's fucking awful.
Aug 7, 2019 | The campus of McDaniel College will remain closed until Monday, August 12 for updates to the electrical infrastructure, administration says.
Sometimes, you pack your bags for your semester abroad, haul them to the airport, and your parents want to take cute, scrapbook-worthy pictures of you before the baggage check. And sometimes, there’s an error on your boarding pass and the airline won’t let you board, so you lose $400 and have to book the same flight for two days later. So you miss all of international student orientation.
My name’s Robin Minch, and this is how my semester abroad began. I’m a junior at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD, but I’ll be studying at the University of Glasgow for the next semester. During this time, I’ll be keeping this blog as a public journal, sharing my experiences and thoughts throughout the months. I didn’t intend to start this story on a negative note, but I would rather accurately describe my experiences so others do not make the same mistakes. So I begin with a bit of advice:
Look over your booking information and boarding pass with a fine-toothed comb. You never know what can go wrong.
Now what you’re getting into with a bargain airline. While they can be a great way to save money in your tight student budget, they can also surprise you with hidden costs. The cost of my two identical tickets was still less than a single flight from a competitor, but this is not always the case. Check to see what your luggage will cost you - is it even included in the regular price?
And sometimes, you’ll think it’s worth saving the money if you just walk a mile with all of your luggage to your dorm, and you’ll thank yourself for deciding to take that backpacking course the semester before. That’s just another unexpected benefit from a liberal arts education.
