Got bored and did some math*:
The Milky Way galaxy is 105,700 light years wide...
The USA is 2680 miles wide...
What if we shrink the galaxy down to fit in the USA?
The solar system would have a diameter of 6.5 Ft
The earth would take up space that is nearly 500 times smaller than the width of a human hair
What does that mean for the whole universe?
At this scale a beam of light would still take more than 3.5 hours to make it from one side of the universe** to the other
Also...
Our sun has 8 planets and there are billions of stars in our galaxy (letās just use 1 billion)
If they all have 8 thatās 8 billion planets in the Milky Way
It is estimated that there are between 200 billion and 2 trillion galaxies in the universe (avg is 1.1 trillion)
1.1 trillion galaxies with 8 billion planets each is...
8,800,000,000,000,000,000,000 or
8.8 septillion planets in the universe
* Iām not a mathematician so a mistake may have been made
**the observable universe, the whole universe is likely infinitely expansive
