Greta Gerwig becomes the fifth woman nominated for Best Director at the Oscars for Lady Bird. 

She joins Lina Wertmüller, nominated for Seven Beauties in 1977, Jane Campion nominated for The Piano in 1993, Sofia Coppola nominated for Lost in Translation in 2003, and Kathryn Bigelow who was nominated, and won, for The Hurt Locker in 2009.
