I didn't want an empty blog, so here's some more info:
A long time ago I started writing a farscape fanfic/comic. I've always loved writing fanfics but unfortunately I rarely finish anything. I take so long trying to 'perfect', and iron out my writing that my hyperfocus eventually peters out. As much as I'd love to finish something, please don't expect this to ever be completed - but I just wanted a space to share my ideas.
Alien characters, machines - non humans - have always been my favorite characters. For reasons I won't get into, I find them easier to relate to. So Farscape, with its incredible puppetry is without a doubt one of my favorite shows ever. And Pilot is so interesting - from a character perspective, but also from a speculative biological one too. I love all animals, have many favorites, but I find arthropods pretty fascinating, so you can bet your ass I'll be pondering on pilot biology a lot - even if I have no background in science.
The storyline I plan to explore here is 10 years old - but the work put into it has not been consecutive. And one of the main reasons I wanted to write it was because I really wanted to know what Pilot would be capable of - when he's not a fixed point in space.
This creature is so frelling huge - and despite the power that goes with that size he's unbelievably vulnerable because of how stuck he is. If Pilot could move then a lot of the conflicts Moya's crew face would be resolved pretty quickly because Pilot would absolutely wipe the floor with their enemies (if pushed far enough). It would be a whole different show.
That said, I don't want to discount all the canon that pilots cannot leave Doien and explore space without bonding to a leviathan. (Yet Pilot was apparently in transit for 22 days during 'the way we weren't'?)
But it got me wondering why is that? And what could possibly happen to Pilot that would mean he has to be removed from Moya...
Oh I have so many ideas surrounding Pilot and this premise, and I hope over time I can share them.
Also, as an addendum: I know the comics exist, and we see the full bodies of pilots in those but I'll be doing my own take on it. Considering that the lower half of their bodies aren't all consistent in canon anyway, even in the comics - it looks like they have weird extendo legs at one point and that feature is never shown again. And on the screen Pilot did appear to have teeny tiny little legs on his lower half - though in the scene where he's being brought aboard Moya, all netted up, he looks kinda squat. But then there's the shot of Velorek climbing down the ladder and the distance implies he's actually pretty long and we're not seeing his midsection.
Plus, I'm pretty sure that lower half we see on the show is actually the same mold as the top section -minus the head. The 'legs' are where his arms are and the ganglion vent is where his neck would be - just upside down. My guess is they did that to cut production costs - why create a whole new animatronic system for a part we're only ever going to catch a few glimpses of?
So, anyways... I'm going to try and blend as many of those elements together that I can.
