I am a cruel, shifting thing,

Made of crude parts and mechanisms I could never hope to understand.

Torn between the urge to be nothing more than an animal,

Free of thought yet deemed filthy, uncivilised.

The need to be seen as human,

To be able to see if only a fleeting glance, of the shred of good in humanity, to connect with it. And the desire to be neither,

To be made of metal, and wires,

Free from the burden of being human and animal,

Yet able to observe, to understand, partake in that experience.

I want to be everything at once, yet nothing at all,

A formless, ever changing mass, a mess of parts.

It feels as if I am rotting in a mind that is not my own,

Trapped within skin and bone of a beast I can never comprehend.
