Update: Michael Arrington, who is now CEO of Yahoo according to his LinkedIn profile, just reported Yahoo even has a 24-hour IntegrityLine to report Code of Ethics violations. Mike says he called the number “and damn if they don’t pick that phone up on the first ring.” I tried calling the number and all I get is some peaceful on hold music and a message “Thank you for holding.” Seems that line might be pretty busy right now.

We spoke to Kutner on the phone, and he reiterated that eBay is struggling with what open source means. “They are not an open source company, so defining this has been a bit of a struggle.” And while he doesn’t think eBay would discontinue Magento as an open source platform, he says eBay still has not figured out the “fabric” component of X.commerce, over a year after the acquisition[.]
The latest office addition. Vintage drink cart. So hip. You'd think we were launching a mobile social network. We're not by the way.
Fear is an organization's worst enemy
I was going to write an essay about my exit interview from my previous employer. But I've decided to save most of this great story for the coffee shop and bar conversations. It's much more fun to tell it in person (plus great insights into how to run a company can't fit into a blog post).
But I did want to highlight a point I learned along the way.
When an organization makes decisions based on fear it usually doesn't end up being for the better.
You can't have it all. What you do want, you must take with initiative.
I'm not looking back. I'm not playing by the rules. And, I'm certainly not letting fear run my life.
For the record, I'm not eligible for rehire at my previous employer. This is a fact. It's both hilarious and sad.
With that out of the way, on to the more upbeat posts about working for a startup. It's been 3 whole weeks at the new gig and I've got more posts coming down the pike. Onward and upward!
Hmmm... maybe it's time to scrap the idea of a controlled launch plan?

We should red ball Chico. The obvious place would be in the "Chico Hands" but are there any other good ideas?
