#justgirlythings This month, Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents celebrated Women in Medicine by featuring medical students from COMs all across the country. I was honored to be featured yesterday.
Megan Boyer, OMS-II, LUCOM Fun Fact: I graduated from Temple University, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where I was a member of the NCAA Division-1 Women's Rowing Team. I walked onto the team my freshman year and finished my collegiate career at TU as a Captain and a member of our 1st All-Conference Team. Since then, I've managed to remain active in my sport through coaching at the NCAA Division-III, collegiate club, and high school/middle school levels. Future Goals: I'm very interested in internal medicine and would like to do a fellowship in Sports Medicine. My dream job would be to become a team physician at a university working with collegiate athletes. Women in Medicine Who Have Inspired Me: While in graduate school I shadowed with Kelly Janke, DO, a general surgeon in Lancaster, PA, and was so impressed with her ability to manage stresses of life, a busy family, and a demanding career... With all of this she is still committed to providing truly patient-centered care. Her interactions with patients and her kind heart reminded me that excellence and achievement in medicine means nothing if we forget the well-being of our patient. She truly embodies the tenets of osteopathy through her ceaseless commitment to treating both "mind and body," while keeping treatment of "spirit" at the forefront. Advice for Girls Wanting to Pursue Medicine: Never forget the power of positive thinking and know that your dreams are only limited by what you believe you can do. We can do always do twice as much as we think we're capable of. "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't - you're right." ~ Henry Ford Personal Motto: Stay intentional. What you give your attention to is what your priorities are. If you stay focused on your goals you won't miss out on achieving them.
