Get back to shore!
This afternoon I watched as two pacific black ducks chased this eastern brown snake out of the River Murray and back to shore.
Coastal Carpet Python (Morelia spilota)
15 happy, healthy hatchling carpet pythons popping out of their eggs after some 60 days of incubation! This wild clutch of eggs was disturbed by garden maintenance. From 25 eggs found at least 6 were broken, rotten, or infested with larvae, victims to the elements and invertebrates. The remainder didn’t look great since the nest had been flooded. I was hoping at least some would hatch if given a more stable environment and our long wait has been rewarded! These little youngsters will be returned to the area where they came from, hopefully to grow big and strong by eating our local rodents, eventually feeding on possums, bats, birds, and more. Some days this job really kicks ass :)
White Crowned Snake (Cacophis harriettae)
This little nocturnal snake found his way into a bedroom cupboard. Only very mildly venomous, these snakes cruise around at night looking for sleeping lizards and their eggs in leaf litter and crevices. Rather cute :)
An enormous rotting whale carcass has attracted an exceptional collection of normally antisocial saltwater crocodiles.
One thing I know for sure about about Australia: it is the undisputed land of the reptile. With a total of just under 1000 species of snakes, lizards, turtles and crocodiles, it seems at first surprising to hear that there are still more being discovered! However thanks to the massive evolutionary radiations of reptile species and …
Spring has started with a heat wave, and the reptiles are on the move! Here at SnakeOut we love them, but understand that not everyone wants these guys around their homes. Here’s some tips to help minimise the risk :D
Duck………Duck…….Duck………Duck……….GUMBY WINS!
#TBT One of Gumby’s most favourite videos! (Gumby ALWAYS wins!)
Another find from the trip to Shark Bay, a really lovely looking Stimson’s #Python (Antaresia stimsoni). Another widespread species, you can also find these as Far East as western NSW. (at Tamala Station Shark Bay)
Basil and Toes have some dinner! Dinner Assistant Wayne assists!
A more widespread reptile- the Western Bluetongue (Tiliqua occipitalis) occurs from western Vic in the east to the WA coast. They predominantly occur in the southern half of the country and usually favour sandy habitats. They’ll eat anything they can catch, but they’re quite slow so snails and plants are big on their menu. Great lizards! - - - - - - -

Two Male Diamond Pythons Duke it Out On Deck in Wild Australia
Video has emerged of two Diamond Pythons (Morelia spilota spilota) duelling it out on the deck of a New South W ales home.
The clip, uploaded to the Lake Macquarie Snake Catcher Facebook page on Friday, showed the pythons’ bodies entangled and their heads swaying as they fought.
The Tingira Heights home’s owner Kelly Cox wrote on Facebook she initially thought the pair were mating.
The snake catcher said the tussle was “a great example of male combat”. “I thought they were mating until Colin set me straight. Milly (the dog) wasn’t impressed but I was. Awesome,” Ms Cox wrote.
The snakes are believed to have been fighting over the affections of a female. “The one with the yellowish belly left so the whiter bellied one was the victor,” Ms Cox wrote.
Birds Of A Feather | by Claire Rosen.
A brilliant live portrait series by Claire Rosen featuring vintage wallpaper backdrops to accentuate and highlight the colors of each bird, which range from the common Parakeet to the exotic Hyacinth Macaw.
As seen on: Honestly WTF.
@wallowinsorrow
Found this small boy today. I’m sure @megadiverse will be able to tell me whose it is.
where abouts was this round child?
AFTER A MEAL it licks its eyes. It has a hinged head and little flaps instead of feet. This is Burton’s legless lizard, an animal worth getting to know.
Burton’s Legless Lizard stands apart from most legless lizards by operating, like a death adder, as a sit-and-wait predator. Hiding in leaf litter, possibly for days at a time, it lunges at passing lizards. It can wiggle its tail as a worm-like lure. Speed and grace are not necessary for this ‘lazy’ lifestyle.
A serious predator, a Burton’s can gulp down lizards as thick as itself. Small snakes are eaten as well. It has a hinged head so its snout can flex down at a 40 degree angle to maximise tooth grip on large prey. The long hinged teeth can be folded out of the way when not in use…
This rare and endangered south-west woma (Aspidites ramsayi) was photographed on the Peron Peninsula, WA
“This non-venomous and virtually harmless python has almost disappeared from its original distributions in south-western Australia due to habitat destruction for agriculture and the introduction of feral animals…”
Saw this cute little guy curled up against the gale winds today -Red Bellied Black Snake
Awesome find!
Qubit, mid-croak
Southern leaf-green tree frog (Litoria nudidigita)
