artfight attack on @pastelaeqy's Aria done in my page card style! had an absolute blast with this character, she has a stunning design!

had to crunch these gifs like crazy for upload anywhere, but there's an mp4 under the cut! besides the time-heavy nature of creating it, one of the worst downsides of this style is that it's so hard to share the finished pieces anywhere because of the file size 😂💖

Heyo Star! Boa here. Hope you've been doing okay. Just wanted to ask a question whenever you have time to answer. (It's cool if you don't want to). Is Bandeestruck (the relationship with Bandee and Starstruck) platonic or romantic? Because i'm pretty confused and I just want to make sure I don't misinterpret anything.

hey there Boa!! nice to hear from you! this is a perfectly fine question! i absolutely understand why it's unclear in my work, and apologise for any confusion caused!

my work regularly blurs the lines of platonic intimacy vs romantic intimacy. that's mostly because i myself, as an aroace person, don't adhere to those lines or find the distinction important, so my fictional work also has a broadly "it's whatever" tone to it. my headcanon for popstar as a whole is that monogamy or romance as a narrative or social concept Doesn't Exist; but that does not mean that all of the actions or behaviours that we would associate with romance do not exist there in some form. it's just that the social structure around them is not present.

i've often insisted that bandeestruck is platonic in the past. this comes from a very specific place of not wanting them to be misunderstood as performing tropes that are usually codified by our society as necessary romantic milestones. but i've realised this is mostly only an important distinction as representation to me as an aroace person, and subsequently over the years i've realised i have a bigger fear- bandeestruck being misunderstood as being """"Just Friends""" or even worse, something familial.

so that said, i think that in an either-or scenario, i would say it is best to assume that most of starstruck's relationships with her peers who are adults in a compatible age-bracket are actually best viewed through a romantic lens rather than a platonic one, and never a familial one. she is inherently an abundant lover: she is both emotionally and physically intimate very quickly. this is not at all unusual or unique on Popstar, which i consider to be broadly kind of like One Huge Polycule of friends with varying levels of interpersonal closeness.

to be as clear as possible: bandeestruck are more likely to do visually romantic behaviours- kissing, dating, sharing a bed, etc- than to not do them! while the distinction means something to me, i would broadly prefer them be read as "boyfriend/girlfriend" than "Just Friends". bandee is far and away starstruck's most important person, and they are incredibly committed to each other's happiness and care.
