Mel nods, swallowing her tears and forcing a small smile on her face. âHeâs okay,â she says with a big sigh. âI should have started taking better care of him earlierâŠâ Sheâs still frustrated that she let her dadâs condition get to such state. âI taught him a few recipes though, before I came here. I hope heâs sticking to them.â She chuckles, and even though itâs weak, she still feels slightly lighter. Maybe thatâs because of Jack. She always felt lighter around him. That doesnât just disappear.
Jack gives her a small smile, shoulders relaxing from a tension that he hadnât known he was carrying. âTh-thatâs good,â he says. âHeâs⊠a-alive, Mel, a-anâ thatâs what m-matters now.â He squeezes her hand slightly, then lets go, remembering this is something heâs not allowed to do anymore. âI-Iâm sure heâll be f-fine.â
Melanieâs smile is a bit more honest now. âYâre right.â It surprises her to feel his hand on hers, but itâs still nice. âGod, Iâm... I didnât expect to run into you here, Willy,â she admits, placing a hand on his shoulder. Now that the atmosphere has changed slightly and sheâs more relaxed, she doesnât hold herself back. âHow funny, that we have to cross half the planet to meet again...â

Melanie feels⊠weird, for the lack of a better term. Sheâs been eyeing the gift she bought for Jackâs birthday for at least a week. She canât decide whether itâs appropriate for her to give him anything at all. At the end, she just says feck it, wraps the present in wrapping paper and she throws it in her bag. If the universe really is on her side like lately it seemed to be, she will run into him. Thatâs why sheâs not even surprised when she sees the boy with the green hair and the crown on his head.
She approaches him quickly, giggling all the way. When she finally reaches him, she taps his left shoulder, then goes around him and pops up on his other side, laughing at his reaction. âHappy birthday, Willy!â she says, big grin spread across her face. âWhat kind of cake would ya like this year?â
Itâs the oldest trick in the book, but Jack falls for it every time without fail. He looks at Melanie, wrinkling his nose in annoyance - playfully, of course. He still doesnât know how to deal with her being here, with being able to run into her at any time, but⊠Itâs kinda nice, seeing her today. Many past birthdays, heâs wished to see her again - though this might be the first time that he hasnât. âThanks, Ells,â he says with a grin. âWhat, are ya planninâ on makinâ me one?â he asks, voice doubtful and playful at the same time.
Mel shrugs, burying her hands in the pocket of her coat. âI could, if you want me to,â she says. âI used to all the time, so...â Maybe she shouldnât have said that. Nothing is the way it used to. Whatâs the point of bringing it up? âDonât tell me youâve already bought yourself one!â she tries to somewhat change the subject from being too painful.

Another year, a whole new person - at least, thatâs what it feels like to Jack. Heâs changed so much from the happy guy who first came to the university. Heâs fallen in and out of love, had his heart broken, almost died on more than one occasion, witnessed one of his very best friendâs wedding, made friends, lost friends, and fallen back into old habits. Still, heâs happy again - or, happier than heâs been for most of the year.
Heâs got a bottle of birthday cake vodka in his bag as he walks out of his dorm. Normally, he doesnât care much about his birthday, but heâs been through enough the past year to want to celebrate another year of surviving. He adjusts his âBirthday Boyâ crown slightly, feeling like an idiot⊠but hey, when doesnât he feel like an idiot? He hums softly to himself, feeling surprisingly happy. No destination in mind, he just walks around campus, taking in how beautiful the world looks and getting some well-needed fresh air.

It never ended, the stress. Rosanna found herself drowning, slowly and surely being pulled under tide after tied. She wouldnât be surprised if an undertow took her and dragged her down to the depths of the sea completely, at this point. Mark had left, he didnât say goodbye, he didnât even tell her he was leaving. She found out from the grey faces, she found out from the whispering in the halls, she found out by the absence in the air, she didnât feel his warmth. She missed him, her heart just felt so broken. She felt so empty. And yet⊠It continued. Cookie nearly ate a bad batch of berries she had found scattered upon  the campus grounds while running about during puppy play time. They had fallen from a nearby tree, thank goodness she swept to the rescue quick. They happened to be very bad for puppers. And of course there was the vile decoration of a Greek row prank, painted so perfectly âerectâ on the Alpha windows. She pushed it off, she knew she shouldnât, but she did. She wasnât officially the president, so she didnât think she should have to deal with it, to be fair. But when the board contacted her that she would be elected into office soon, and then noted the âartworkâ, she was put into the place of taking care of it. The air was brisk, the clouds in the sky deep grey & unwelcoming, and the grounds were bare & just as unfriendly. There sat the tiny brunette, brow covered in sweat beads, in the deep days of January, scrubbing away at the graffiti penises with all her might. The paint dripping with the streams, like a water coloring⊠A very not safe for work one. Her coat was placed on the ground next to her, she was too flushed to wear it. Her hoodie sleeves scrunched up to her biceps, and still she was somehow too hot. Next to her sat a bucket of water, a bottle of soap, Windex, a spare sponge, and a mop for the places she could not reach due to her tiny height.
With a loud grunt she put her back into it, her brows scrunching hard, furrowed with all her might, and it seemed like it wasnât even putting a dent into the dick before her. She had only gotten rid of maybe 3 of them total, and there was still a slew to go. Her face was red and her muscles were sore. She looked before her and shook her head, and then it happened. She broke. Tears streaming down her face, fast and strong, thick and rapid, small little sobs escaping despite herself. If only she had known someone was watching the entire time.
Melanie was just getting back from a quick run when she noticed someone cleaning graffiti off the windows. She was supposed to be working on some stupid assignment that caused her way too much stress, so to relax - and to procrastinate - she just decided to go for a run.
She wants to help the girl, but she also really needs a shower - a thought that doesnât matter as soon as she notices the stranger start crying. She walks over, determined to cheer her up.
âI break down as well when this many dicks are in my face,â she says, chuckling at her own bad joke. âDo you need some help?â
Rosanna jumped a bit to the sound of the person approaching. Still she couldnât help it, the joke was pretty clever making her let out a soft chuckle. Her hands, still soapy, brushing her bangs from her face. As she looked up to see the face before her, she realized she sat before a complete stranger. With a sputtered heart, she went red faced in embarrassment. Loose tears still spilled slowly from the corner of her eyes, making her scold herself mentally. With one small sigh, she spoke, âHah! Itâs really overwhelming. I knew your college years were for experimenting but I never expected this kind of party.â she splayed her hands forward to show, trying her best to slow down her unsteady emotions. âYou donât have to stay though, I couldnât ask anyone else to have to deal with all these fellas.â she gave a weak smile.
âYouâre just sayinâ that because you want all the penises for yourself,â Melanie says, folding her arms. Her left eyebrow is cocked, almost as if she was judging her, but the smirk on her lips say otherwise. âCome on, weâll get it done quicker if we work together.â She reaches her hand out to the girl, offering a handshake. âIâm Melanie, by the way. We should probably get acquainted before sharing dicks, right?â she laughs.

Itâs my party and Iâll cry if I want to - Birthday Boy || Open
Mel chuckles along. âBut I want to!â she says, putting her foot down. âI canât see anyone around willing to do the same, so youâd better accept it.â She can see the coffee shop at the end of the street already. âWhen else would you allow someone to treat you like this if not on your birthday?â
Michaelâs cheeks tinted bashfully and his teeth splayed big at her small foot stomp. âOkay, okay.â he said, palms placed in front of her in defense with a hearty laugh. âAs for your question, hah⊠um nevverrr.â his voice squeeked a little at the end of the sentence with a chuckle, brows climbing up ready for the girl to scold him again,Â
Mel chuckles at the expression on Michaelâs face. âWell, you should,â she says, continuing their way to the coffee shop. âI always force my friends to treat me on my birthday. Itâs fun. You should really try it. Itâs awfully relaxinâ.â She opens the door for him, nodding her head to tell him to go in. âDonât get used to it, itâs only because itâs your birthday,â she jokes.
Michael followed Mel forward, shaking his head as she went on and then letting out a chuckle, âSounds like you might know best.â he said in a small shrug. âGuess I gotta give it a try. Itâs been awhile since Iâve done⊠anything with friends though.â he said a little softer, zoning out a bit, until he realize she was holding the door for him, âOh, thank you.â he replied quick, snapping back into reality. âOh, Oh, Iâll try not to.â he laughed again. âIâll get you on yours. You can totally boss me around and order me to order you food. Itâll be a blast.â he said lightly, winking at her. He didnât even realized he did it at first, till he cleared his throat to change the topic. He hadnât felt so comfortable in a long time, even just mucking around.
âI do know best,â Mel says, showing her teeth as she grins. âIâm a lady, and ladies always know best.â She giggles as she lets the door slam behind the two of them and starts looking for a table. âDonât worry, babe, Iâll go easy on you,â she jokes, and turns her attention towards all the different types of tea that are displayed. âI have to admit, that does sound pretty good...â Mel pretends to be actually considering taking that offer, but she canât keep a straight face. âGod, I could never do that. Iâll let you buy me cake and we can hang out, but... I could never boss someone around, even as a joke.â She shrugs. âBut maybe Iâm just too weak and soft. Weâll see if that changes until August. You have some time to prepare.â

âIâm sorry to hear that.â Melanie debates whether she should put a hand on his shoulder, to give him a sympathetic squeeze, but in the end she decides against it. She doubts theyâre at the stage where physical contact is acceptable. âIâve beenâŠâ She wants to say sheâs been okay, to just shrug it off, because thatâs what she always does when someone asks her such questions. But itâs Jack, itâs her Willy - how could she do that? âItâs been rough.â She drops her gaze to the floor as anxiety slowly takes over. âDad had a heart attack.â Her voice is only a whisper, but she feels like she has to share that fact. Jack deserves to know, and she hasnât really talked about it to anyone since it happened.
Jackâs eyes go big and sad, and though the pang in his heart is slightly numbed by alcohol, he can still feel it. ââm sorry, Ells,â he says quietly. âI-is heâŠâ Okay? Dead? He doesnât know which line of questions he should be following, and he just reaches out to take her hand. Even when heâs not sure if sheâs real or not, itâs part of his very DNA to comfort Melanie. Ever since they were little, and she was mostly upset over broken dolls. He always got upset over that, too.
Mel nods, swallowing her tears and forcing a small smile on her face. âHeâs okay,â she says with a big sigh. âI should have started taking better care of him earlier...â Sheâs still frustrated that she let her dadâs condition get to such state. âI taught him a few recipes though, before I came here.
