❛ The beach. ❜
Jace repeated, laughing to himself.
❛ Something tells me we’re gonna have a beach wedding? ❜
He said, looking down at Mel, raising his eyebrows.
Melody blushed and giggled, a smile on her lips.
❛ Something would be very right. ❜
She said, leaning her head on his shoulder as they walked together.

Jace laughed, squeezing her hand in return.
❛ Ohhhh, I don’t know how either. ❜
He said, joining in on the tease.
❛ I’m sure Posy can’t wait to meet her new future sister-in-law, either! ❜
He laughed, adding
❛ she’s always wanted a sister, but for now she’s settled on having Katniss. ❜
She giggled uncontrollably.
❛ Of course they love you..you’re amazing Jace. ❜
She told him lovingly as they strolled back to the castle, her engagement ring glittering on her hand.
❛ I can’t wait to meet her. ❜
She enthused.
❛ Having more family members..that’s all I’ve ever wanted, ❜
she admitted, looking up at him.
❛ Tonight, after we tell our families, let’s go to the beach. ❜

He noted, realizing that she, in fact, hadn’t met most of his family.
❛ Good thing your family likes me! ❜
He laughed, before adding
❛ I think you’ll like Posy. ❜
Melody smiled, squeezing his hand. Looking back at the mermaids for a brief moment, she looked up at him and smirked playfully.
❛ They do..don’t know how! ❜
She teased, but kissed his cheek.
❛ I can’t wait to meet her. You’ve talked about her before. ❜
She said, starting to walk out of their little hidden world together.

Jace put a cocky smirk on his face, something he hadn’t done in a while.
❛ We aren’t even married yet, and I already got my ice crown! ❜
Laughing, he tried his best to look up at it without removing it.
❛ Thank you, princess. ❜
He said, before kissing the top of her head, and putting his arm around her waist.
❛ So…. Who’s family should we tell first? ❜
Mel smirked at his smile, that familiar cockiness sparking a giggle.
❛ Oh look at you, you’re just living the dream already! ❜
She teased and kissed his cheek in return.
❛ How about mine..but then yours right after. I have only met Gale..never met the rest of your family. ❜

Jace laughed. Melody was probably the only person he wouldn’t mind calling him an idiot, even though, he had to admit, he was kinda an idiot sometimes. No matter, he liked that quality about himself. When Melody looked out at the mermaids, he soon followed, getting lost in many thoughts. It wasn’t until he heard Mel’s voice that he jerked back to attention.
❛ That would.. Probably be a good idea! ❜
Melody looked up at him, smiling radiantly.
❛ I’m sure they will want to know..being our families. That..and they are going to be one big family soon, too. ❜
She murmured, blushing happily. This was really happening. They were getting married. Winking, she lifted her hand and twirled her fingers, snow forming out of thin air, a shape resembling a crown sat itself atop his head. She giggled happily.
❛ There. ❜

Jace put his hand to his chin, and put on his thinking face. Laughing lightly, he looked back down at Melody.
❛ A prince, huh? ❜
He asked, chuckling a little more.
❛ Alright, but on one condition. I want an ice crown. ❜
He laughed, goodheartedly. These were things he, for once, did consider. Which was good, because previously, he had a bad record when it came to considering everything when it came to making a life decisions.
Melody nodded, her face half a wince, half a smile at his thinking face. Giggling when he talked about wanting a ice crown, she wrapped her arms around him once more and kissed his cheek repeatedly.
❛ I love you, you idiot. ❜
She teased, looking to gaze at the mermaids for several long moments. Then, Mel’s eyes flashed back up to him.
❛ Our families! We have to tell them! ❜
She enthused.

Jace laughed a goodhearted laugh, kissing Mel a couple of quick times.
❛ There is no one else I would rather spend the rest of my life with. ❜
After all, he had been wanting to spend the rest of his life with Mel, for the past month or so. And now, that is exactly what would be happening.
She looked down at the ring, smiling, tears still gathered in the corners of her eyes.
❛ Jace..I..I’m so happy! ❜
She looked up at him, her hands resting on his face. Suddenly, she stopped, looking up at him.
❛ You know what you’re getting into..right? ❜
She asked softly.
❛ You’re marrying a girl with ice powers.. you’re going to be a prince, a king someday.. if we go back to my father’s kingdom.. ❜
She whispered.
❛ Can you handle that..? ❜

Happiness and relief flooded throughout Jace. Without a doubt, Jace was more than happy that Melody had said yes, and felt silly for worrying that she would say no. After slipping the seashell ring onto Melody’s finger, he stood up, and wrapped his arms tightly around Mel’s waist, picking her off the ground and spinning her a few times.
❛ You really wanna be stuck with me, huh? ❜
He asked lightly, and happily let out a small laugh, taking in how perfect the moment was.
Melody slipped the ring on her finger, her eyes wide, and a smile spreading over her lips. She could see the relief on his face, and she wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tightly as he picked her up and spun her.
❛ Yes, of course! ❜
She was crying again, from happiness of course. She pulled back briefly to lean up and give him a long kiss.
❛ Question is..can you be stuck with me? ❜

Jace fumbled around in his pocket for a few moments, biting his lip the entire time.
❛ Well, I just, I mean, we’ve been together for a long time now. ❜
He said, shuffling his feet against the ground, avoiding her eyes, glancing over at the mermaids a couple of times. Taking in a big breath, he decided enough was enough, that if he didn’t do it now, he may never get the courage to do it. Besides, he couldn’t leave Melody confused from this moment.
❛ Melody. ❜
He said, as he closed his eyes, pulling a small box out of his pocket.
❛ Will you do me the honor, of becoming my wife? ❜
He was down on one knee by now, and had finally got his eyes to open.
As Jace spoke about how long they had been together, she smiled, having never have felt so happy before him.
❛ I know..it’s been wonderful.. ❜
She said dreamily, snapping back to reality when he started fumbling with his pocket.
❛ Jace? ❜
She asked softly, her voice loving and tender when she watched his eyes shut. But then it happened, she watched him drop to his knee, and the words leave his mouth. When his eyes opened, hers were full of tears, and full of happiness. Covering her mouth, she nodded repeatedly, unable to speak for a moment.
❛ Yes.. ❜
She finally whispered breathlessly.
❛ Yes yes.. ❜

Color quickly rushed to Jace’s face as he looked down at Mel. Taking a few deep breaths, he recovered his posture, but he was still shaking.
❛ Well, I just.. ❜
He started, but quit, trying to find the right words.
❛ I didn’t plan the mermaids to be a part of this, until yesterday. ❜
He said, as he pulled away from Melody.
❛ And I just hope you say…. ❜
He bit his lip quickly.
❛ Yes. ❜
Melody looked up at him, her thumbs tracing circles around his cheeks as she watched his blush form.
❛ Didn’t plan them to be a part of what..? ❜
She asked in slight confusion as she watched him back away from her. Having been hurt in the past, and rather recently, she suddenly feared the worst, that Jace was breaking up with her. Until he said, he hoped she’d say yes.
❛ What..? ❜
She asked in confusion, her long hair being blown around her gently by the sea breeze.

Jace had almost become mesmerized by the mermaids, himself, when his attention was finally jerked back to the real reason they came here. They must had spent twenty minutes watching those mermaids. Suddenly, Jace tensed up. He had been planning this for weeks, he shouldn’t be tensing up. There was a lump newly formed in his throat, and his mouth was dry.
❛ Mel.. ❜
Was all he managed to get out, before his throat wouldn’t let him talk anymore.
Mel felt him pull away and she looked up at him in confusion and worry.
❛ Jace..? ❜
She asked softly. She had never seen him look like this. He looked fearful and nervous, and her Jace was never like this. When he spoke her name, she reached forward and gently took his face in her hands.
❛ I’m here.. ❜
She murmured.

Jace gingerly set his chin against the top of Mel’s head.
❛ You’re welcome. ❜
He said, quietly, but not quite but not quite a whisper.
❛ I love you too, Mel. ❜
He said, before giving the mermaids his attention for a couple of minutes.
She nuzzled her face gently into his chest, the mermaids still holding her full attention, her fingers clutching his shirt gently.

Even if he had wanted to, there is no way Jace could have lost his smile.
❛ I’m happy. I’m happy that you’re happy. ❜
He admitted wrapping his arms tighter around Mel.
❛ I’m not sure many things could make today better. ❜
But there was still one more plan up his sleeve. Something he’d been mentally planning for about a month now. But he was going to let the mermaids take the spotlight for more time. This was, after all, one of the greatest moments in Mel’s life. He didn’t want to cut it short, by what he hoped would be another great moment.
Mel’s shoulders were still moving up and down, and she was sniffling softly, but it was all because of happiness. She nuzzled her face against his chest and watched the mermaids with awe, like she was 7 years old again in her bedroom window looking at the sea and wondering dream or wonder anymore. There they were..and with Jace holding her close and tight, she didn’t think she could ever be more happy.
❛ I love you.. ❜
She whispered against his chest.
❛ Thank you..for doing this for me.. ❜
She whispered, watching the mermaids in their grace and their beauty.

Jace smiled, a smile that easily made his top five biggest smiles. Seeing Melody’s reaction, it was easily one of the greatest reactions ever fathomable.
❛ I’d sure like to believe they’re real… ❜
He chuckled.
❛ Or else we’re both seeings things.. ❜
He said, as he put his arm around Melody’s waist, pulled her in, and kissed her right over her temple.
❛ “I told you it was an amazing surprise, didn’t I? ❜
He whispered into her ear, smiling.
Melody continued to stare at them breathlessly, her hands covering her mouth after pushing away a gasp of joy. As he pulled her in, she buried her face in his chest, her shoulders moving up and down. She was crying, not hard, but enough. She pulled back and looked up at him, her tears only making her blue eyes more prominent, leaning into his kiss and smiling.

She hiccuped.
❛ The best..surprise anyone has ever given me.. this..it’s all I’ve ever dreamed of, all I’ve ever wanted. ❜
She hugged him tightly, her head resting on his chest as she watched them.

Jace laughed, squeezing Melody’s hand back.
❛ I’m flattered! ❜
He said, jokingly, swishing his hair, just as he had seen many people do, when they would act better than someone.
❛ I think this will be better than a swamp, though. ❜
He said, as he stopped and turned to face Mel.
❛ Now. ❜
He said, putting his hands gently on Mel’s shoulders.
❛ I hope this isn’t something you’ve ever seen before, because then I will feel a little silly making a big deal out of this. ❜
He smiled, and turned away before a blush would appear on his cheeks. He pushed back the bushes separating them from this great surprise, and held them open for Melody to pass through. What lay beyond them, was something that apparently seen in Narnia for years. Mermaids.
Melody giggled as he swished his hair, smirking in good nature at it.
❛ I’m sure it is, if we are anywhere near the ocean. ❜
She winked, then moved her free hand through his hair to fix it, then kissed his nose quickly. She watched his eyes as he put his hands on her slim shoulders, a blush spreading over her face once more as he looked at her sheepishly, nervously. It was rare of him to act so, and it brought a smile to her face and her heart warmed.
❛ Well, I guess we will just have to see if I have! ❜
She said, bouncing on her heels excitedly. As she stepped through the bushes and looked ahead of her at the pond, her mouth dropped and her hands went to cover her mouth to stifle a gasp. It was everything she had ever dreamed of, had ever pictured as a little girl that lay in front of her.
❛ Are-I..are they real? ❜
She asked, suddenly fearing it was a dream, but tears of joy had sprung into her eyes, rare as she liked to keep her emotions in check.

Jace leaned in closer to Mel, but not enough to knock either of them off balance.
❛ Well, my little Kaia, ❜
He said, deciding to give his girlfriend a nickname that meant Ocean, which seemed to suit her very much.
❛ I won’t tell you want I found. BUT! You will be stunned when you see what I have found. ❜
Melly was giggling happily, her eyes alight as her Jace moves closer to her, her fingers squeezing his again. She blushed at the name, already seeming to know what it meant without having heard it before.
❛ I can’t wait..but then again we could be in a swamp for all I care..I’d just be happy it was with you. ❜
She murmured, reaching out a hand to brush the taller flowers.
