My application got rejected. Getting selected had been Step 1 of a rather elaborate plan; now the subsequent steps are mocking at me, at how proud I’d been of my ‘well thought out’ plan...

Priorities
My country is facing the worst floods in years. My people are dying. Here I am, in the southern tip of India, with a laptop, internet connection and time on my hands, wanting to help but not knowing how to.
As my people suffer, I’m here, designing a webpage for my college fest. My priorities are so messed up, it’s ridiculous. I’m increasingly becoming a helpless spectator, reeking of ineptitude, lack of initiative and plain laziness.
Whazzup, asked the Diplopoda
A millipede came over today morning to say hi. I saw it tracing its path along the window sill, poking its tentacles, trying to decide upon its path. I wasn’t thrilled. I’m careful enough to avoid millipedes when I’m outside. If I’m about to stamp on one, Sneha, who somehow manages to keep an eye on everything around, gives me a shout of warning and I freeze my foot mid air, place it somewhere else and go about on my job. But this one was inside my room, which by the way is on the first floor.
I used a pen to block its path. It could’ve easily climbed over it, but it decided to turn about. It let me guide it outside, responding affably to my pen blockades. Maybe it knew that I could see a larger picture. My initial irritation turned into wonder at this beautiful creature. It couldn’t hear any of the noise I made. It trusted only its tentacles.
I did not want it around, outside my window sill. I flicked it off the window using the same guiding pen. I imagined it landing softly on the grass outside. But there was this sickening sound and I knew that I had killed my morning friend.
