Ignore the mess! Continued construction story for my Raven Queen skirt - after figuring out how the feathers would fall I put the skirt on a dress form over a crinoline and hoop skirt. In the pleats I decided that lace would be best to give depth and texture. Since it easily moves, it also means I can wear the skirt without a hoop or crinoline when I go to the live show in October.

Fun stat - there are around 17 rows of feathers per panel making for around 136 rows of feathers, and if my math is correct, it comes in at roughly 37 yards!

I consider myself a beginner cosplayer with flights of fancy. My newest one was to remake my Raven Queen skirt. The old one was made during COVID where I really didn’t know what I was doing and it was beginning to fall apart. I knew this time more what I wanted… well sort of.

The base satin skirt was purchased so I’d have a good foundation. I’m not great at patterns and sewing and I used this same skirt for my Bright Queen cosplay and really liked it.

After receiving the skirt I knew I wanted feathers (omg! Soooooo many feathers!!!) and I wanted them to be removable so I could more easily conduct repairs. I decided to velcro them on so I could get at areas with minimal problems. This is me playing with the placement of the feathers and realizing with the pleats I would need to figure out how to handle them and the feathers likely wouldn’t work.
