Incorrect Bridgerton S3
Colin: and now I’m CRYING!! You’ve made me CRY, Pen :(
Penelope: baby,
Colin: now’s not the time for pet names.
Penelope: no I’m calling you a baby
Penelope: I’m insulting you
An incomprehensive list of Bridgerton S3’s biggest failures
I’ve had the time to reflect since premier and watch a second time, so these are my thoughts. I’m begging Shonda to change my mind w pt2 but as of rn I hold little hope this won’t be the worst season by an embarrassing margin
1. Failure to flesh out Polin’s preexisting relationship (that leads to a huge bungling of Colin and Eloise’s relationship!!!)
The biggest response I’ve seen to a critique I share is that polin had such a strong preexisting dynamic that is makes sense they were featured less heavily than other couples. Now I see conceptually where that idea comes from, Pen liking Colin and him being oblivious have been cornerstones of the last two seasons, however, all their new scenes were presented to us sterile and without either sexual chemistry or a callback to a prior scene they had shared (or something perhaps we hadn’t seen, such as the time a decade prior Cressida mentions, when “the Featherington’s moved in across the street” instead we see confusing scenes that make little sense ESPECIALLY when we have no prior on screen (nor flashback) foundation for Pen and Colin’s friendship WITHOUT Eloise. Without her to act as middle woman this season, and with no flashbacks or reminiscing, the dynamic of true friendship between Pen and Colin feels forced. (And side note— as a sister, if my brother picked a friend of mine over me after we’ve had a relationship-ending fight that I refuse to even talk about??? That’s crazy— this is why I say it ruined both Colin and Pen AND Colin and Eloise’s dynamics— because I’d hope my brother would never do that to me, and without any more context besides mere letters as to why Colin would still entertain Pen now that Eloise has been betrayed by her? Near nonsensical)
2. Sudden appearance of a plus sized debutante(s) and no comments on Pen’s looks/weight
For the past two seasons there have been no size diversity besides Pen in Bridgerton, and don’t get me wrong, I think all the debutantes are beautiful this season, and I am thrilled that there is more expansion and diversity in the cast and the ton!!! But after making it such a big deal for the past several seasons, to try and make the ton size-blind reads as a cop out to me. Colin needs to face that facts head on that he has counted Pen out because of her size, just as everyone else has.
I could continue for actual pages because I have issues from Benedict‘s confounded character to Eloise’s sudden betrayal of her values (and friends/sisters??) to Cressida’s random??? redemption. But these are the two I am most frustrated by !
[Unsolicited & probably unpopular] 2 cents on Daphne Bridgerton and *that* scene in S1
I see a lot of controversy on this and ⏰ app to this day about Daphne and Simons relationship and the assault people take issue with between her and Simon when she doesn’t get off of him before he finishes inside her.
Now, to clarify, obviously I do not think that is romantic, appropriate, or even should have been included. Quite frankly I think that it should have been revised from the book like [so I’ve heard, many other problematic plot lines that exist in the book] so many have been changed or edited when adapted for TV. But because that *wasnt* the choice that was made, I think it’s a moot point.
As for the way it’s handled in the show— I do think that what she did was wrong, in the sense that of course violating someone else’s sexual boundaries is unacceptable, and that it honestly seemed out of character for someone like Daphne to do that. But I also think this is ignoring a MAJOR issue that the Duke himself preyed upon when agreeing to marry Daphne.
That poor girl did not know ANYTHING about sex. And by that definition, I truly believe that for all she assaulted him, he had coerced her fraudulently into sex with him for the entire duration of their marriage up to that point, and would have happily continued to do so going forward.
I think that this is a rough issue, especially the way it’s presented; I personally choose just to ignore it and focus on what I do like abt Bridgerton, but I just genuinely get so frustrated when I see people consistently misunderstand the dynamic, and impute onto Daphne a kind of knowledge/mens rea component she simply did not possess that was the catalyst for the entire situation and long term sexual relationship that CAUSED her to “test” her theory from her ladies maid and assault her husband.
Rant over.
I am the ceo of unpopular opinions (but great fanfics im so fr) so here goes nothing… my “Bryce was acting OOC” opinions

The Ithan B Plot:
TOG TANDEM READ RANT (spoiler free! My recommendation for first time readers)
There are two major issues with the EOS/TOD tandem read ESPECIALLY the way everyone is pitching it to first time readers. I originally read the series in order, and did the tandem read on my reread. My opinions/two major critiques are as follows:
1. TOD is not a completely terrible book like some people pretend, it is interesting, and stands just fine on its own. EOS however is the best paced and one of if not the most exciting and thrilling books in the series. While swapping between the two stories can improve some of the more tedious or frustrating parts of TOD, so much more of the magic of EOS is lost when you constantly jump back and forth from the incredibly well written book that Empire of Storms is. Tower of Dawn doesn’t suck badly enough to warrant chopping up one of SJM’s best books across the board, and objectively lowering the quality of the cohesion of the writing/story progression.
2. they were literally released in this order on purpose, if you’ve read the series already you should know why it’s so important that the length of time between EOS and KOA is and feels so fucking long and that certain characters fates are ALWAYS on your mind… SJM emphasizes that and effectively ups the stakes by choosing to write the penultimate book from the POVs/geographical locations she does, so far removed from our typical POV protagonists
If you want to tandem read, that’s fine go ahead! If you want to skip TOD completely, slay, that’s what my sister did and frankly idgaf! But the whole “tandem read is the BEST way to do it” trend I’ve been seeing was making me angy :)

Garrick, walking in on Violet and Xaden mid-fuck in Ch 32:
Begging the Feysand stans to explain to me how you can possibly square Rhysand’s “character” from the first 3 ACOTAR books with his actions in ACOSF (NOT how nesta portrayed him, I find the differing POVs fascinating and that’s not at issue) like Feyre is victimized (by him!!) and deprived of autonomy and choice but I’m supposed to believe her position as high lady is legitimate????? How is he empowering her or giving her back anything but an illusion of control
