The Grand Finale | Mercy + Giffords
Walter’s heart started beating fast, and he was terribly lightheaded. He groped for Becca’s hand, just trying to grasp onto someone he knew. These strangers were touching him. And, realistically, he knew they were helping, but he was still scared of them. What if they were only pretending to help? But even if he wanted to fight back, he couldn’t. He couldn’t stand let alone beat them up. He just needed Becca’s hand to hold onto him.Â
Collin visibly jumped when Elijah’s stitches were scratched. He was imagining how much pain his little brother was in. He already couldn’t breathe, and the wound hurt already, he could only imagine how much it hurt to have the sutures torn at. “Please!” he shouted, his desperation turning to rage. He was more than frustrated. He was terrified. He was angry. He hated her. No. He hated himself. She was just exacting justice on him, as sick as that justice was. But why did that justice have to be taken out on the people he hurt, too? It wasn’t fair. He wanted to tear her apart.Â
He remained in that agitated state for what seemed like hours (but the clock reassured him it was only about fifteen minutes), muscles tense, eyes wide, keeping his glance on Mercy. He couldn’t let his eyes wander, in case she did something while he wasn’t looking. But movement on the low roof directly across the street drew his eye. He couldn’t tell exactly what it was, but he could only hope it was help. A sniper maybe? Oh god, he hoped so. He made sure his gaze returned to Mercy quickly, so he wouldn’t give that position away. Elijah was squirming. If it was a gunman, he probably couldn’t get a good shot with him moving around. “Eli, I know it hurts, but stop squirming. It’s not gonna make her let go.”
Seeing that he was reaching for her hand, Becca just offered it to him. He needed that support...just like she did. "I'm here, it's okay," she continued to say, managing a comforting smile for him. "You're going to get help. I w-won't let them hurt you." By the way he was acting, it clicked that this was Oliver anymore. Of course it wasn't Oliver, since he was hurt. Walter took over and he was put in this situation. "You're going to be okay." She kept repeating this, wiping away tears with the back of her wrist, listening in for another shot. So far, there was only that second one when she was in the hallway with them. But nothing else.
Elijah didn't want to hear any of Collin's suggestions, seeing that he was in pain and he was the only one that was able to try to get himself out of that grip. But he was in too much pain to actually struggle any more, and he was out of breath. All he knew was that he was mad at his brother for putting him in this situation.Â
Mercy was excited by the fact that Collin was getting angry. It gave her a reason to punish him more - he was yelling at her? She had every right to shoot his brother now. Collin was being cruel to her, fighting back. He wasn't allowed to do that. As she adjusted herself so that she had a stable grip, slowly positioning the gun right at Elijah's temple. But before she was able to make her shot, she was hit herself. Right in the head. Her body slumped to the floor, on top of Elijah, as she started to bleed out.
