AFTER ENDLESS is a comic series that serves as an AU that takes place after the ending of Shin Lupin III, where only Lupin III dies instead of everyone.
That's the formal description, but I just wanted to draw him as a merman 👍 how tf does this correlate to lupin dying?? Find out...
Though it is encouraged to read Shin Lupin III, it is not needed to fully understand this comic!
CHAPTERS:
Pilot Chapter - Keep in mind that it only provides the general context of After Endless, but a lot of the things in this one-shot is outdated and no longer part of the canon story.
Chapter 1 - Endless Blues

Has the merman lupin au been discontinued as the account has seemed to be deleted
Ah so someone actually noticed. I didn't delete the account, but I made it private and locked the blog under a password.
After some thinking, I decided it'd be best to put that project under hiatus until I have more time to work on more long form stories. At the position I'm in right now, I cannot have the time to dedicate to something that long anymore.
To put it in perspective, I have a part time job now, I've been involved with a club in my uni, I've also joined an animated film project and I also have to juggle the typical classes as well as the online projects I've joined. So yeah, it's unfortunate. I haven't done much to progress the comic any further than starting my draft on Chapter 3. If I continue at my snails pace, I'm pretty sure I'll die before I finish the story.
It's been really hard mentally feeling like I can't do much with the skills I've gathered. I had a lot of time to reflect on the story I wanted to tell and I feel like there are a lot of flaws in my story that I want to fix up. I want to improve my character writing and also to shorten the story up to where I can finish it at a reasonable time. For the time being, I want to release more one shots or short comics instead while I change the story behind the scenes.
I'm aware it's disappointing since I hyped it all up and it barely got anywhere, but I think it's the best choice for my health and for the quality of my work too.
But to give y'all something, here's the Chapter 2 that I finished last year! Be aware that this story is now scrapped and kinda not canon, but it's a fun read I guess.
A short comic I figured to do for fun and to test out the traditional format a bit. I've been in a bit of a tough spot with school lately so I haven't had the time to draw much... But I got the third chapter's storyboarding done! Here's to hoping I have more time in November to make more progress.
i've honestly been feeling pretty unsatisfied with how my art is turning out, especially line-art wise?
when i draw digitally, it doesnt really feel like im actually drawing what i want to- it doesn't really feel like i am really drawing. maybe its because of the fact that i dont really feel like im in control of my lines most of the time.
for context, i drew chapter 1-2 of after endless mostly on ibispaint on my phone. without the colors, which feels like the main appeal of my art, the lines have to do most of the heavy lifting. the lines alone do not look good in my opinion, it feels like im wrestling with the technology and the fact that im not using my hands and arms to the greatest of its ability since im drawing on a phone. it really exposed me to the fact that my lineart is honestly garbage compared to what i really want it to look like in my head.
i really want my lines to look like something made traditionally from a pen and yet im not really doing that. i tried to find every way i could to replicate such a feeling on digital but with the resources i have right now i dont think i am able to do that...
so that's why i think that from now, i should start experimenting with traditional art again and draw everything with a real pen and paper. it would just be lineart only, and if i need to color anything, i would probably scan it and color it digitally (my scanner is notoriously not good with pinks and purples) it sounds like a fun idea, since i've been honestly having a lot of fun writing on paper again and doing figure drawings with my newsprint in my class. maybe i'll also have fun being able to draw my comic on paper?
i really am sorry that after endless is starting a bit rocky, but i really want my work to look the best that it could. with the way it is right now, i feel like its doing a disservice to what the story and characters would become in the future. i gotta buff my art, and then ill come back much better than ever!!
I changed my mind about waiting until I created 5 chapters to post something, mostly because I worried that it would take too long. Chapter 1 would be here just so that you guys have something to chew on until I catch up to my Chapter 5 goal, I hope you enjoy it!
ahhhh god ok my stupid stupid silly au i made a year ago.... this will be a bit long so get ready
tldr: lupin died, the gang is alive. goemon finds lupin but he's a shark merman!? and lupin remembers nothing!!!
long version:
so this AU follows upon the story of shin lupin, which basically, the gang gets killed off by zenigata because he rigged an island full of explosives.
instead of them all dying however, lupin decides to knock the gang unconscious and find a way for them to escape off the island safely, leaving only him in the island to die.
the rest of the gang had no idea how they escaped and assumed that lupin had sacrificed himself for them. they woke up adrifted on the ocean until they eventually got picked up by a ship where the invisible captain from new adventures returns. but ah ill spare the details for another day
---
2 years have passed and the gang just kinda separated to do their own thing. we'll only focus on goemon cuz he's the featured character of this comic.
goemon decided to escape the life of crime that has burdened him for years living as a part of the lupgang. he's mostly a wanderer now and tries to do good and help people along the way
funnily enough, goemon is not the first person to find lupin, but I'll talk about this later. but goemon is definitely very mixed about seeing his friend who he thought was dead for years. he doesn't know whether to be happy or worried.
---
lupin, at the brink of death after the explosion, plummets down the ocean and wakes up one day, feeling like he's been rebirthed!
essentially, lupin became a merman because right before he could die, his body (i mean what's left of it 💀) interacted with a magic crystal that has the ability to grant life to a living being.
It's really rare, but it exists in clusters deep in the ocean floor or- deep under the rocks of an island :) you can say im bullshitting, which i am but i dont think exploding an entire island down to every rock has happened before, so it can kinda make sense why something so coincidental about these crystals could happen. (I AM TOTALLY MAKING EXCUSES I JUST WANTED TO MAKE LUPIN A MERMAN.)
and so these crystals used whats left of lupins body and reassembled him back, and idk other essences of the ocean to make him a merman!
the memories of his past life have definitely been buried deep inside his brain to the point he can't remember any of it though, so he thinks that he was born under the ocean and has lived there for his entire life. other than that he retains almost everything about himself, down to stealing stupid shit and messing with humans just for the fucks of it. he's kinda seen as like a nessie.
---
anyways, y'know how i said goemon wasn't the first one to meet lupin? that's because lupin has met zenigata before!
living a life with only fishes around means lupin's kinda lonely and likes to stalk humans sometimes. the interaction with him and zenigata did not end well though, and lupin has no idea why zeni wants him dead so much.
after that he's way more cautious around people that look like zenigata- hatted big men with guns. its gonna be fun once he sees jigen.
ok what else... i think that's all i want to reveal now. will i do more of this? maybe. maybe not. kinda embarrassed of this because of how silly it is but i hope you people find this interesting! byebye
Hi! I am still alive and this comic is still... alive!
I have Chapter 1 completed and Chapter 2 is currently in progress. The reason why Chapter 1 and future chapters won't be posted immediately after completion is that I am planning to make 5 in advance before posting!
The comic will be posted on a (hopefully) monthly basis, so I wanted to have a couple chapters premade in the chance that I fall behind schedule (which I definitely will, due to college). So it will be quite a while until you see any more of Merman Lupin, but rest assured that something is being made!
Meanwhile, perhaps check out a one-shot comic I made a couple years back about Goemon and Merlupin's first meeting! It's no longer canon, but it still provides good context to the premise of the story. Thank you!
Here's merman lupin's new ref!!! Uhh i changed him into an orca because shark's vertical tail fins proved difficult to manage when drawing him on land. Sorry shark lovers 💔 he'll be remembered
This is gonna be the debut post and stuff since I have the entire story written out already and the hard part now is just... sigh.... making the comic.... 🚬
I'll try to get some chapters out hopefully by this year (NO PROMISES) but yeah im so excited teehee
