it be like that
“If you were to text me at five in the morning, saying that you can’t sleep and you need someone to talk to, I’d wake up. I’ll always wake up if it’s you.”

LOTTE: well shit they don't teach that in the history books

LOTTE: my fellow americans
LOTTE: have you thought about how bloody ironic it is that we spent the fourth of july in britain
LOTTE: (hello i am making a desperate attempt at communication please talk to me)
CIRO: for like, a minute, but fuck the fourth of july anyway
CIRO: did you know a major reason for the revolution was bc a british judge ruled in favour of a slave in a court case and the fuckers in the south were scared shitless about losing their slave economy
CIRO: i'm good
CIRO: tho i'm surprised you didn't set off any dick shaped fireworks in the middle of the night

the taste of iron was RIPE in his mouth, his mouth twisting into a grimace as he avoided smiling and putting his blood-stained teeth on display. Not that he got away with it. He’d wiped his face as clean as he could, but there were still cuts and bruises and his knuckles - red as a fire engine. fuck subtlety right up the ass, he says. he spit out the leftover blood in his mouth and pushed a fry between his lips. perhaps the safest place to be in posh, freaky little areas like these was leaning up against the side of a fast-food restaurant where each meal did not even qualify as ‘pocket change’ for the residents. what was worth less than pocket change? WHATEVER.
his expression fell. he still managed to run into someone he recognised. dandy. so much for ‘safe’. “slumming it, I see,” he remarked, shovelling another fry in his mouth. “all these grand and wonderful artefacts of colonial history and accelerated capitalism to visit and you found yourself in the parking lot of a mcdonalds? we have these at HOME, y’know. i mean, s’probably one of the more honest landmarks of modern capitalism, but i still believe when in rome,” he paused to lick some salt off the pad of his thumb, his whole lower lip stinging when it came into contact. “or in this case, romneyland, you do as the romneys do. see the sights, ignore the homeless, pretend to enjoy a soggy meal of mushy peas and fried fish with zero seasoning and call it a day after having two ‘pints’ and knocking the fuck out.”

alcohol, another one of will’s specialties. and london was definitely a great place to experience it. a bar crawl, or more appropriately a pub crawl seemed like the perfect escape. an escape from this institution, an escape from reality into a world of delirium and bad decisions. you didn’t need to say anything else to convince will that this was a great idea.
ciro had caught wind of will’s big plan and asked to tag along, and while will was in much more of an isolating mood, they couldn’t lose this perfect free spirit image they had cultivated around them. so of course, they couldn’t do a pub crawl without any company. or at least turn down potential company.
the sun was setting, and will had already made it a block or two from the campus, a cigarette dangling between their fingers when they notified ciro where they were and what exactly their plan was. they didn’t have one so to speak. and so they waited on a corner, inhaling the smoke a bit too deeply and a bit too quickly to be anything less than on the brink of destruction. or maybe it would be pure freedom.
depending on who he was with, ciro could often work both sides of a coin. in eureka, he had been quiet and withdrawn, communicating only with his fists and the barrel of a baseball bat. in the IEE, his first few weeks were spent quietly as well as he slowly calculated where he fit in the school’s food chain. since meeting odessa, he had slowly begun breaking through the bullet casing he had been confined in since his parents’ death. she had a role in it, but so had everyone else he met through or because of her.
he had technically met noemi before his ex-girlfriend, but it was partly due to the proximity being her best friend’s boyfriend gave him that their friendship continued to flourish. their shared memories and shared grief were powerful forces that kept the fire between them alight.
mattie. mattie, he had met because of odessa – and not in the best way. the beginning of his friendship with mattie and the end of his relationship with his first girlfriend coincided in the worst possible fashion. but, she had shaped him, too.
and will – will was an odd one. will was the person whose arms odessa fell into after ciro had let her go. the initial knowledge of it was something uncomfortable, sparking tender flames of jealousy in his chest. but, over time, he had warmed enough to accept it. odessa was someone he could never have forever, their morals contradicting too sharply for it to last. if someone else were able to make her happy after he had torn their relationship apart for his damned justice, his stalwart morals, then they were someone ciro had to respect.
but ciro didn’t only respect will, was the odd thing. he liked them. they were eccentric, reckless and lackadaisical—his complete opposite, but they had earned themselves a comfortable spot in his circle.
so, when he received their text signalling him to their location, he wasted no time in going out to meet them. when he arrived, it was with a cigarette held between his bitten lips and his hands in his pockets. he lifted his shoulder in something of a half-shrug. “qué onda, amigex?” he said, dropping the go/ga suffix entirely and opting for amigx. “sorry if I kept you waiting. not really used to the terrain. where do you wanna hit up first?”
